I bought a LBZ duramax in feb. and I have had nothing but problems with this truck, from rattles to loosing the 4 wheel drive! Always been a chevy but seriously considering going to a ford! Anyone else had any problems?

i don't see a ton of problems with them. the only common rattles i know of are on the ex-cabs. the upper striker for the rear doors likes to rattle. easy adjustment to fix. haven't really had any 4x4 issues with them for a while. the 01's and 02's had issues with the switch but most of them have been weeded out and updated parts installed. really good trucks overall.

my d max is a 06 lbz i can hear a rattle noise some times. but it sounds like its coming from the front end. driver side. it does it when its warm and cold. other than that its great. i love this truck. this is my first diesel. :drink
We all have problems. In my book its better to fix the probelms on a great truck than buy a the lesser

does it do it on turns and/or while braking? first guess is it's your intermediate steering shaft. dealers have a lube kit for it.

gm makes really good vehicles. i stated on here once before that i feel they have the best overall build quality and i believe it. their interior pieces have a richer texture than ford does while they're assembled with better components than dodge uses. gm doesn't have near as many electrical gremlins dodge does.

but they do need to beat the crap out of most of their designers!! if it were up to me the aztec designer would still be bleeding. lol!
my truck makes that noise at stand stills mainly.. i cant hear the rattle when i am moving. but i can some times hear it when i am stopped at the light or when i am warming up truck.

i am a big chevy fan. i have only brought chevy trucks. this is my third. i have never had any major problems with any of my trucks. i hope its the same with this diesel. :gearjamin
The front-end rattle is probably the same one lots of other GM owners are experiencing - a problem with the intermediate steering shaft is about one-eighth of inch in diameter too small. GM dealers have been packing the shaft housing with lube (gease), as per GM's instructions on the remedy. Of course this doesn't last too long; replacing the shaft with one that actually fits into a bearing or bushing without any play is really the only way to solve the problem.
Has anyone managed to get GM to install the revised-design intermediate steering shaft ?
