can purple diesel gum up the injectors? I was told not to use marked fuel because of the dye but I can't see how it would harm anything we use it in our drill rigs all the time and they never have problems with it.

You shouldnt have any issues just make sure to keep a spare fuel filter in your truck because the tanks it comes out of can be really dirty sometimes. I have known guys with the 6.7 cummins running rig fuel with no issues in PA and WV.

There is no purple fuel, only red. most of red is USLD now but some is still LSD, I run LSD whenever I can. There is no harm in running either, well, other than tax evasion LOL
Yea I guess I am just used to calling it purple, maybe its gas thats purple, anyway marked fuel is much cheaper if you have the right conections.:rof

So far my LLY hasnt had any problem on the Red "Off Road" stuff. Just becareful, I know that in Va & Md, DOT loves to catch people runnin it in there trucks and the fine is based off how much your truck can hold and not how much you have in it!

Yup lol I get the "cheap" fuel from my buddy that does demolition, just flip him some cash and tank is full.

Interesting thought though, I heard form the bio place her ein AZ that 25ML of red dye can treat a 250 gallon tote of #2...:eek::eek:

I was down in the Montana a couple of weeks ago and bought red dye for 264 a gallon that works out to 64 cents a litre about 35 cents a litre cheaper than what I get fuel for in Canada. I love making trips to the states especially when the dollar is at or near par, Going to Idaho next weekend to camp, shop costco and go to Silverwood with the family.
Oh and here in B.C. the marked off road Diesel is purple

I was surprised in Montana that they sell it at the pump and anyone can just pull up and fill up. Here you need special authorization at a card lock and only loggers, farmers and off road vehicles can get authorized, its hard for anyone to get marked fuel so the DOT don't check often for pickups with it. When we work at the Coal mines we drive our Work trucks there on E and drive out on F all the time, never had a problem yet.

I forgot the diesel pickups don't have the same restricted fill pipe the gassers do. In California, none of the code enforcers bother with pickups too much unless you are towing or hauling BIG loads.

Haha. My truck LOVES red diesel, almost as much as I love the free price tag.

Of course, the authorities around here have started "dipping" tanks to make sure you're not running it. The fine for running off-road diesel on the highway is nuts.
