what does a bad tensioner or idler pulley sound like? they were replaced not to long ago. whats the chances of them going out again?

mine sounded like a squeak with a rattle. You can always take the belt off the tensioner and spin the idlers and check for play. I have heard that an alternator bearing going bad can do the same.

its weird tho. alternator is new. and i replaced the tensioner and pulleys less than 15k ago. ( i knew the guy i got the truck from)

A lot of things can happen. Parts do fail early. Its an easy check to see if there is play. I could actually see my belt tracking differently. I would watch the tensioner and see if it moves around (the marked area). Did the whole tensioner get changed or just the pulley on it?
