So its time I fully matured and grew up.

My part time truck is a 2001 LB7 CCLB Dmax LT with 37s, a 12 inch Full Throttle Suspension lift, Weld Cheyenne Evo wheels, Longhorn Fab traction bars, side dumped straight exhaust and PPEI tuned and a few other mods. Its a long story, which I will gladly relay, but the bottom line is I can't really use it for its intended purpose with a loading height for the tailgate at around 50 inches. The plan is to neuter it and replace the 37s with 35s and the 12 inch lift with a 6 inch lift.

Here it is with the drop hitch for reference, IIRC that is an 18 inch drop hitch...and a picture next to the LML dually for size

So, first for a little background.....

I've been looking for an older model duramax, and found a 2004 LB7 duramax, 4 door extended cab stock, with 58,000 miles on it for $23,000, so my main question is: Is this truck worth the money with low miles??

#57 ·
What nada book value?

#59 ·
Then I wouldn't pay a dime over 19500. Never pay clean retail price or more than that. You're loosing out. I paid 39000 for my 08' in 2013 with 10,100 miles and it booked for 48,900

I'd just explain to them that high book is what it is and it's only going to depreciate and that low of miles there could be issues arise from extended time sitting

There's always a 50/50 chance it's gonna be trouble free or a problem child.

The worse that will happen is injectors unless it set out a lot then there's a possibility for some electrical issues

#67 ·
Get trans and oil and coolant analysis done and check the injector balance rates at a minimum.

If you pull the trigger change all fluids, coolant, install a lift pump for extra filtration.

Got the alignment done. Well as much as you can do with a tape measure on MTs by yourself. Also installed new park and headlight lenses.

Danville pinned water pump should be here thursday...oh joy. Not really looking forward to that job.

Just ordered some Stahl 2.5inch spacers for the rear to get the track close to the front.

Got legal yesterday. Got it inspected and registered for the first time in a while.

Had a clunk in the driveline and upon inspection, noted that I lost a nut on my trac bars and the bolt was almost out of the rear attachment point. DOH!

getting closer to being a DD

First bath. Not bad for a 15 year old truck.

And this showed up today.

and I ordered Stahl 2.5 inch spacers for the rear.

And got a lecture from the wife on the tab for this build.....Can't wait till she sees next month's statement....

and yes I know some of these posts are out of chronological order

Second doorbell ring today.... the muffler has arrived. These 5 inch exhausts are massive.

I have a decent sized fist and I can't touch both side of the pipe.

Well started to install the exhaust and realized that the kit they sent was for a 2015.5. It has a 3 bolt flange instead of the V band. So that didn't get done. Some other stuff showed up today. OEM third brake light. OEM DRL sockets, LEDs and new license plate lights.

Here is the old light.

This is starting to go beyond lowering the truck to almost an oil change.

Got the license plate lights and LEDs installed along with the third brake light. Much better. Waiting on my Diode Dynamics LEDs for the front before replacing the DRL sockets.

Next week when I get back to the weekend place, I'll yank the wheels, pull the brakes, paint the calipers, install the new SS brake lines. Take the rotors to the machine shop for a little cleanup, no more than 3-5 thousandths and get ready to install the new pads.

Hope the spacers and the right exhaust will be here by then. Probably redo the parking brakes while I'm at it.

Alas, then there will nothing standing between me and the waterpump.....not looking forward to it.

All right. Pulled all the wheels, brakes, calipers and brake lines. Found out why my park brake is weak. Took all the rotors to be freshened. Although the truck only has 137k on it and the brakes are original and have 50 % left. Since everything else is new I'm replacing the pads with the high dollar OE AC Delco and new parking brake pads. El Tate is hooking me up with all new seals and bearings/races for the rear. Prepped the front calipers for red paint. Replacing the longer SS lines with new Russel lines that are shorter. I don't want to touch anything under the truck for the next 100k.

Found some wings and beer while waiting on the rotors.

Oh. Also pulled the park light fixture and put diode dynamics LEDs in the drl park/turn along with new AC Delco DRL sockets since they were crispy.

So put new guide pin bushings after cleaning the old grease out of the bracket and lubed with new lube and installed new boots. Use a 18mm socket to drive them in to the bracket.

So last weekend I washed and then compounded the Bus with a DA polisher and McGuiars gel coat compound and polish then applied canuba wax. It took a long time but the results where great. Need to polish the windows and work on the hood some more.
