I got my Rick's pro fab down pipe and my MBRP 4" exhaust a couple of weeks ago and decided to tackle it tonight. I figure I'd get everything removed tonight and install everything tomorrow. I'm having trouble on removing the downpipe. I removed to bolts covering a heat shield on the top end but not having any luck getting it out. Does it come out or do I have to work around it? I'm stuck for now just going to take the exhause apart then come back to the down pipe.

I could really use some help on this if someone feels like calling me today or tomorrow PM me and I'll leave you my number, thanks
Matt

After doing some searching on df.com I found some helpful write ups on diy. The heat shield around the turbo won't come out with out some serious bending or cutting, but it does move around enough to get to the V clamp. But for some reason they decided to put the clamp on the bottom so I had to remove the glow plug module to get access. I started sunday night on the project around 6:30pm when I say start I mean pulling the truck in the garage and getting prepared. I quit around 1:30am and had only got the exhaust out. Today I finally got the down pipe out and its not even noon yet:D So I figure with all my breaks last night and starting this morning around 9:30am it took me about 7hrs to get eveything out.

I'm taking a coffee break and then headed back out. I'm just hoping the down pipe goes in easy because that heat shield over the turbo is a pima.

Oh, and BTW, I thought the 06' LBZ's didn't come with cats.

Here are some pics of the old exhaust, I believe that is a cat on the front pipe and the engine pic is showing the massive heat shield that I can't move.

I worked around mine because i had the same problem. Just pushed it back toward the firewall and wedged it in there. We did my friends and he just bent and ripped out his heat shield and never put it back on so that is up to you.. you'll also have to remove the 2 transmission dip stick tube support bolts and pull the dipstick tube out so you have room to remove and install down pipe. The biggest problem i had was getting the old down pipe flange out of the turbine housing. Had to beat it with a hammer and use some pry bars. Then i used some CAT high temp antiseize on the new flange, hopefully it will make it easier if i ever need to remove it in the future

I got the new down pipe in, it went up easy but I had a hell of a time getting that v clamp around it. Need a nother hand if if you no what I mean. Other then that it went smooth. The bolt that tied the bottom to the uppipe was a little stubborn but got everything under the hood put back together taking a small break and gonna hope to god the MBRP lines up good:notworthy

Yeah those v-clamps are a pain. From what i was told some trucks have the nut on top and others are on the bottom from the factory. Looks like we both weren't lucky there haha. It should be a breeze from there. mbrp's fit pretty nice

I finished it up last night, even got the tip on. I was going to quit and do the tip later but you know how that works, probably would have been awhile. I had to cut a few inches off the tail pipe for tip to look just right plus I didn't want it to stick out that much either.

I fired her up and holy crap that thing is loud, at least from the outside it is, not to bad in the cab. Sounds good on the road too. I haven't romped on it yet to see what it sounds like as I just drove it in to work this morning and as anal as I am I like to baby my stuff until I feel its up for it. I took some vids of before and after not sure how to post them here but will probably upload them on youtube then post the link.

Here is a pic of the tip, it looked bigger in the box but to big would of been over kill.
