replacement tailgate

Where is a good place to get a replacement 2002 GMC tailgate? I won't need the handle or hardware and I can paint it myself.

Id call local salvage yards and get a used one. The tail gate is the same from 01-07.5. After market ones are cheap and will only last a year then start to rust up

Thanks for the welcome. I lurk and learn, but don't write much.

I called a auto salvage and they wanted $400 and I still would have to paint it. So the $130 skins aren't any good? Rust isn't much of an issue here in the high desert, but I don't want to cheap out either. Guess I'll keep looking for a used one.

I've got an new and unused 2000 Silverado tailgate that I believe will fit your truck. It's primer black. I hit a deer and totaled my old 1500 before I could install it.

Let me know and I can send pics. I can let it go for a good price.

I hear you with the no rust! We put a aftermarket one on a customers truck and it rusted so bad in a year it nearly fell off! It was a older guy and he rarely used the bed! If you do get one Id spray or throw some sort of paint inside the gate to prevent rust. Especially on the joints and pinch welds

Apparently $300 is a pretty good price. Lots of places wanted more. I remember when they were cheaper also. I bought one for a Ford 6 years ago for $200.

i work at a company that takes off new beds and tailgates and we install utility beds, dump bodies so if you guys were closer i would hook you up

heres one on craigslist for $100, idk what it would cost to ship though- its in NY

I replaced one on a cummins a while back and found it on craigslist for $100 and it happend to be the same color white and not even chipped so that worked out well. Also maybe check with certifit and see if they have one. they are aftermarket replacement but usually cheap.
