My truck acted like that for a long time and by running a qt of 20/50W motor oil, and diesel clean additive in each tank it kept under control for awhile.
As far as changing injectors I've been thru 3 sets in my truck. Injectors were on back order so I kept mixing up used sets until I finally got a good set. You don't need to drain coolant, or any fluids to remove any of the injectors. To remove #8 injector you need to remove the I/C boot from turbo, remove the bracket that holds the main harness plugs, remove the 10mm bolt down below the valve cover holding the fuel injector wiring loom, remove the bracket supporting the fuel line, remove the high psi fuel line for #6 injector to give access to #8, then remove the clip on top the injector holding in the return line(be careful) then the injector will come out. Start off by twisting it side to side while pulling up on the hold down. After you pull it be sure to take great care cleaning out the hole where it came out, any crap down there will keep the new injector from seating and cause problems. Use a piece of 1/2'' hose shoved up a shop vac... Also be sure to use some kind of lube on the o ring. It can be tricky getting them back in and seated correctly. I shove it down while twisting back and forth, then tighten the hold down bolt a little then use a drift and lightly tap on the steel part of the injector to seat it.
