Resetting oil change reminder

35015 Views 17 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  JDHDrum
I have an '02 LB7 Silverado 2500. My oil change reminder comes on and I plan on changing my oil. After I change my oil, I figure I need to reset the reminder. How do I do that?
Thanks,
Gary

There is an arrow on the right bottom of steering wheel, hold it down for 5-10 seconds and it'll reset..OR without DIC trucks, within 5 seconds of turning key on slap the accel pedal to the floor and back..
They thanks! I never figured out of I have DIC. I have a little message center on the left part of the dash. Is that the DIC? I have an '02 Silverado if that matters.
Thanks

no.....it's where the mileage is displayed, look right over column....and if your truck has a DIC,get it to oil filter life and just hold down that button with the arrow on it......
I changed my oil today and could not get the oil reminder to go away.
I turned the key on and pressed down on the accelerator (to the floor) and back.
I then turned the ignitiion switch to off (sometimes I waited a few seconds).

Every time I start it, I get the change oil reminder.

I have a non DIC truck. Any ideas what I could be doing wrong?
Gary
turn key to on postion without starting
then press gas pedal to the floor five times quickly
that is how mine is reset
^^x2 you have to press the pedal down 5 times not just once....sorry to derail but is there a way to reset the change fuel filter reminder or does that mean my WIF sensor is screwed up? i just put a NAPA Gold in like 2 months ago i know the filter is fine (no water in fuel) but the indicator message still comes up? It happened right away after i changed it so i know something is wrong...maybe i didnt plug the WIF sensor back in good enough?
yeah,three times within five seconds
Thanks guys, I'll try it tonight when I get home.
I get a few different answers here.
1. once
2. five times
3. three times in 5 secs

#1 doesn't work. I'll try #2 and #3, but I wish someone could tell me for sure.
Speaking of fuel filters - Do non DIC trucks have a fuel filter change reminder?
I changed my fuel filter yesterday. Looks clean.. but that's not saying much since i didn't open it
to check the filter element.
Gary
option three should be the key!

Yup #3 is it. turn key to the run position and push the pedal to the floor 3 times. Same for all GM vehicles that have a change oil light, or DIC message.

There's a similar procedure for the fuel filter but IDK what it is.

I changed the oil on my 5.3 last week before I traded it.........this is how I cleared it.Turn on ignition to ''run'' WITHIN 5 seconds, step on the accel until it goes to the floor[hard,it won't hurt!!]3 times quickly, the dash light should blink then go out...Good luck!!:drink:drink

the fuel filter is hold the gas and brake down for 10 seconds, IIRC
good info in this thread!
I was able to reset my oil reminder. I had to slam the accelerator 5x in order for the reminder to reset. I tried 2-3 times doing it 3x, but it didn't work. It might be because I did it wrong, but when I tried 5x and saw the engine light blink, I had a good feeling it would work and it did!
Thank you all for helping me out.

For my 2002 LB7, 5 press of the accelerator to the floor with the ignition "ON" reset my reminder.

Now I have to figure out why oil is leaking from the oil pan bolt. It never leaked since I bought it in 11/09, but now it does. I had a hell of a time removing the bolt since the prev owner over tighten it. I guess to stop the leak.

Any luck on oil pan bolt washers to stop leak? I guess I should have changed it. Where do you guys get yours? Dealer?
Gary
A new plug gasket will stop your leak, I make my own, iirc you can just get them
from the dealer.
So I just bought this truck and followed the directions in this post to reset the oil light, thanks for the good info. Option #3 worked, but now the red battery light comes on in the message center after the truck starts. I'm new to this truck and diesel in general, but is this normal? Thanks in advance for your help.
