So my dads truck, NOT the one listed in my sig, is a 07.5 chevy, it's completely stock. I Noticed the other day that the tailpipe had soot in it. and when my brother was pulling a trailer off the yard i noticed it puff a little black smoke. Shortly after dad got the "clean exhaust filter" and after a run down the highway fixed that but the check engine light stayed on. Took it to the dealer and they said a plugged air filter was the problem. That didn't sound convincing to me. Any thoughts?

I will note too that a few weeks ago, my brother was pulling a goosneck flatbed loaded up and the check engine light came on. Onstar was called and he was told the turbo had overspeeded itself. but since then that hasn't seemed to be an issue.

my old mans 07.5 had dirty air filter syndrome and the dpf code popped up on a trip to the mountains, changed air filter and off we went. then the dpf clogged again towing boat to the lake and that was that, trip to the dealer to have it burnt off or w/e and he still wont let me delete the stupid dpf.

yard that dpf out of there and never look back

Iv had a plugged DPF & cracked DPF. Iv been told alot diff things that it could of been (from the dealer) air filter, EGR valve, plugged DPF, etc.... My friend told me its cracked. Then I called GM & asked to get this fuck DPF replaced/fixed (cause I was getting the run around from many dealers) & finally GM stopped :taunt me off & got it looked @ & replaced. Service writer told me Cracked DPF.

Cant wait to remove & not worry about DPF regen junk

If its soot (black smoke) its broken.

I have heard that a malfunctioning EGR will cause a lot of extra smoke too

I don't have to try very hard to convince my dad to huck the piece of crap in the garbage, but it's on warranty until next spring...it'll be gone in a week after that. He's fed up with it...until then though...
