when i start up my truck my oil pressure is at about 60 on the gauge. a friend told me that for optimum performance you should let the truck run for a minute and let the oil pressure go down to about 30 before driving anywhere. when i let the truck sit the oil pressure does go down and the truck seems to drive better like that. is this true?

I agree. I make an effort to not gun it till 2000 rpm pressure has dropped below 60. Pressure is a reflection of viscosity, and cold oil resistance to flow. I used to see 30 psi while towing, and idle around 10-15. That concerned me even more.
