Hello all,

I was pulling out of my house yesterday and as I was backing out my power steering and my brakes had no power. I checked under the hood and I noticed the fluid was down about 20 percent. there was a little leak there but what I am wondering is, why would both my power steering and my brakes go out at the same time? It is a 2006. Any suggestions on any fixes or suggestions because I have already done that and it is still acting up. It will work pericodacly but it makes allot of noise.

The power brakes run off the power steering. It s called a hydro booster.

is your serpentine belt still there?

Yes the belt is still there. This Booster, is it something that is pretty expensive?

Actually it sounds like it has no fluid even though it is working.

I was reading something about a flush on it. should I do that or do ya think it might be gone? Is this a common thing for these to go out? it is kinda odd that my truck only has 32,000 miles on it.

More than likely your power steering pump went out if you lost both. Pull your belt and grab onto the power steering pump pully give it a light tug it might come out in your hand. I have seen a few shafts shear right off just behind the seal.

That's a chevy thing, it used to happen a lot on the 5.7s

I would definitely check out that pump shaft.
