I have a 2001 LB7 and it is bone stock which means it only has 235 HP. Would anybody help me up my HP to 500 the least expensive way without losing reliability. I don't have to have that much power all the time, just if I get a wild hair and want to play around. Thanks ahead of time.

I purchased an 01 LB7 about 8 months ago, bonestock. Felt really sluggish to me, started reading up some write ups, went with a PPE boost valve, Air Raid Cold air kit, 5 In exhaust, Air Dog DF-100-4G and the PPE Xcelerator Programmer. These bolt ons have completely changed my truck, and currently have the tuner set on 2. More than enough power for anything!!!

Where do you get the 235hp from, my 01 states 300hp on the valve cover. I do agree with some added hp to wake it up but 500hp and you are on borrowed time with the tranny. Just have to search and read up for a tuner as everybody has varied opinions.

Hi Mray, I bought the truck used with 125K miles on it and it did not have the literature with it so I went online and a computer search states 235 HP. May I ask for your input on why it's bad on the transmission? The only thing I have done to it to date is the biggest tranny cooler it would fit.

I'll second Mray, 500hp is nice but your transmission will hate you.
As for the basics...
Look at a lift pump, doesn't add HP but will protect your injectors if you go FASS or AirDog (or add the filter heads to the Kennedy set up).
As for intakes, I've got the Banks set up with the super scoop on mine and I've been very impressed. My hand calculated mileage went up .75 to 1mpg or so every tank full.
Then it's all about the tunes, either canned or EFI Live. If you poke around the site a bit there are a number of reputable tuners that will set you up with EFI Live for exactly your setup.
Just start a fund for your transmission.

I have an 03 LB7 326k on dash. I bought a used tuner for $100 and run on 3rd level (pic added).

Added 90 HP and it really woke up engine (will smoke the tires). My research showed don't go over an extra 100 HP and transmission will stay happy. FYI, I have added a Airdog 4g II lift pump since but that makes no difference in HP. Just makes the cp3 happier and I highly suggest it. I got it after having to change my cp3 which is a bear to change. I have since added the cheap PPE and it makes a small difference.

Stock Allison transmission don't like anything over 100HP or stock without being built. I run my 70HP tune (EFI Live) and truck gets the best fuel mileage and is pretty quick. My truck has been tuned for over 300,000 miles and transmission is good. Just change the fluid and filter on regular intervals. I second a lift pump and good filters. Welcome to the club!
