2005 2500HD with 36K miles just bought by a friend. In the last three days he has noticed that it *gets stuck* in Park. This happens when he is on level ground or an incline. If he turns his engine off, then re starts he is able to then shift. I am not sure if this is an Allison problem? Electronic? Stealership so far has blown it off, but he has an extended warranty, I wanted to know if anyone is aware of anything special that should be checked? Thanks for any help

Does the column shifter move or get stuck? Its all electronic and there is a actuator on the tranny that changes gears. If the shifter itself doesnt move or gets stuck then its probably the electric interlock swith near the brake pedal. It tells the shifter that your foot is on the brake to let it out of park.

Stealership said that there was moisture in the sensor. Cleaned and appears to be working fine for now.

Sweet! A buddy of mine had a similar problem. He plowed snow with a gasser 8.1 with allison. I was with him one night and the shifter would shift but the dash selector would get screwed up. When he went from R to D it went RND32...32D

Took it back to the dealer and it had a bad actuator.

Did they replace the sensor or just clean it?
