So, when someone steals your truck, is there a way to track it?

HA! 10 seconds with a sawzall through the steering wheel and its gone! If they can steal catalytic converters in the middle of the night with a sawzall and don't get caught, a sawzall in a closed vehicle is even quieter!

Seriously, if a thief really wants your vehicle, there's very little you can do to keep them from stealing it. There is truly one way to keep them from driving away with it, and I emphasize "driving away" here. If they tow it, nothing can be done at all, aside from removing the wheels from the vehicle!

Install a switch that shuts the fuel pump or other "required" item for the vehicle to start and run! Be smart about it too, install it in plain view, use an oem switch for something like a sunroof opener or seat heater or other common switch. Run a relay and splice into something that will disable it from being driven, or being driven very far. The fuel pump is great for this, they think they got the truck, then it just dies on them, they panic, thinking it was shut down remotely, jump out and leave the vehicle right where its at!

Our trucks are perfect for something like this, there's so many switches in the dash, they won't even think to hit something that looks stock and sits in the row next to all the others, they'll be looking for that one switch that looks out of place, a toggle switch under the dash, or in a glove box or center console. Wanna really piss 'em off? Install another switch that says FUEL PUMP SHUTOFF, then wire in a "delay relay" connected to 4 or 5 pain generators inside the cab and 3 or 4 sirens under the vehicle! Set the relay to run for 30 seconds AFTER its turned off!

The idiot will think he can't get it started, find this obvious switch on the dash, flip it on, siren goes off, he quickly flips it off but it continues to run the sirens, blowin' his eardrums out inside the vehicle and notifying everyone in a city-wide block that the truck's being stolen, and more importantly, YOU!

How about wire it to a modified driver's seat that has been made into an ejection seat? No need to provide a path out of the cab, just pound the dent in the roof down with a wooden/rubber mallet. May have to replace the headliner, though.

Sorry for your loss.
For what it’s worth, I have Apple AirTags in my 2007.5 Silverado 2500HD, all our vehicles etc. We had a bag stolen from a vehicle and found it two days later less a few items. Well worth the money.

Just had a 28 day old2023 3500 stolen on star was unable to do anything an hour after it was stolen

Loose on the details, but it seems like the crooks have figured out a method to almost instantly disable OnStar.

Article from February 2020 and the last thing in the article states...

In a statement, OnStar responded to the rash of Chevrolet Silverado thefts by saying it was working “closely with law enforcement in Texas to understand the details of theft methods being used.”

I call BS, Onstar and GM don't care, they know insurance will pay and the owner may end up buying a new GM truck, so just one more sale for them! I have started taking the fuel pump relay out of the truck at night hoping that causes them enough issues, if they do try to get mine, that they bail on the theft. I think I will take a look at all the fuses and relays to see how many I can remove to disable it, I doubt they'll have a pocket full of the right things to repopulate and drive it away

This actually makes more sense to me the a thief hanging around close enough to scan your key fob. Locks are useless with a minimal investment and skill, pop the lock, hood and swap the correct computer module, rinse and repeat, that is an extremely easy concept in a scary way. GMC and Constar know this already and sadly prolly one of the reasons they started adding Constar to the purchase of a vehicle in some instances.

look into Ravelco. after they get done, all you have to do is take a fob out every time you get out of the truck. they use metal sheathing and wire it into the factory harness. might save you some time with the fuses and relays.

We should all make sure we have secondary tracking systems in our vehicles.
My dad kept the dealer-installed tracker in a '16 Town & Country he bought. As he got older, we used it to track him when he wasn't supposed to be driving (early 80's with some physical issues). I kept it and re-upped the subscription. It's called SVT Pursuit. Get a small discount on my insurance, too.

There's a UK company, Automatrics, that has a YT channel where they use their tracking devices to track down stolen items, from Range Rovers to industrial compressors to excavators. They are not the only company around, by far.

Forgive me, been a long day at work, not sure why my mind went there 🤣 😂 :devilish: :devilish:  😁 🤣
'Cause it's f'n true. :-(

The problem here is, if the thieves really are using a gps scrambler of some sort, none of these trackers will work at all, no matter what brand it is. The only hope is that they don't find the tracker, turn their scrambler off and hope that it reports their position.

Of course, nothing at all is not better, so having at least something extra at least gives you a chance to get the vehicle back.

I like how you think. I always liked the "car alarm" in one of the Bond movies. Guy breaks the window to get in, car blows up. Works for me! :)

Better yet, =replace= the relay / fuse with a blown one. :)

Maybe a class-action against GM on this.

Oh, I've had all sorts of ideas back in the day! One included a portable electric fence transformer hooked to the springs in my truck's seat and activated when the alarm was on---no siren to let them know its armed either! If the thief sat on the seat with the alarm activated, they'd get a few joules of electricity right through their arse!!!

LMAO!

Actually, I saw a guy who, pretty much, energized the whole damn body if the alarm went off. 50k volts if you even touched it after the alarm went off. Smoked any electric tool if a crook tried drilling or cutting.

The OP never said how, when or where.. I'm guessing they left it running and someone jumped in and drove off..
If not then what happened?
I realize I’m late to the party here, but just in case people were still contemplating safety measures, a transmission lock works pretty well on patrol cars. Super handy if you want to run in a store for a min and leave your vehicle running as well. Dodge was putting them on the patrol hemi chargers standard. If you didn’t know what to look for, you’d never find it. Push button any time in drive and when it goes on park it doesn’t come out until button is pushed again. Push button to set again as soon as it’s in drive. Ford dealerships were adding aftermarket ones that were pretty big and not hidden, but you still had to know what it was. I’d be shocked if GM isn’t doing this as well. My 2500 has an identical place to install it as they are installed in the chargers (pretty sure Durango as well but I could be wrong)
