I've always read this is a no no. Seen some failures if you google. All depends on what you are towing though i suppose.....landscape trailer with limited tongue weight, sure. Up into the higher limits of the truck i wouldn't. Not worth it.
Larger than stock tires on a dually, duals touch, tires blow, sadness ensues. Add spacers, tires don't touch but loads on studs and hubs get messed up, parts break, more sadness.....my guess.
Spacers are fine to tow on. I know plenty of people who have done it with no issues. I have personally towed my whole life when I moved on a set of 3" upfront and 4" in the rear from south FL to east TN with no issues.
