Transparent Trailer View Problem

I have the GM camera that's compatible with my 2024 GMC 2500HD installed on the rear of my trailer. All of the measurements for installation are within specified parameters. I've done the calibration procedure and according to the in-dash app all of the various features are checked off and set up properly. For the most part, the various camera views are working as they should, with one exception. When I select the transparent trailer camera icon, instead of getting a full screen view to the rear where the top half of the trailer seems to completely disappear, I get a partitioned screen with a view down each side combined with a small inset screen with a view out the back of the trailer. Any ideas as to what the problem might be?

For example, this is an image I found that shows what I see:

And this is what I should be seeing:

What's strange is that the trailer setup app in the truck shows green checkmarks for all of the calibration functions and a message says that all features have been enabled although the transparent view clearly has not been.

I did read somewhere that it was important to drive straight at under 31 mph to complete the calibration but when everything came up green I thought I was done. Guess I'll have to try again. Thanks for your reply.

^^^what he said and also double check your measurements, the 2020-2023 models would do the same thing if the physical measurements were not entered correctly, camera height was not correct or something like the spare tire was in the view. Driving under 30 is correct also.

Good luck.

Thanks. I have double checked the measurements and triple checked the camera location before I mounted it so that's all correct as far as I can tell. I think I just haven't let the calibration process go on long enough. Getting the check marks in the setup menu may have led me astray in thinking everything was done.

I did reread the setup instructions more carefully and found that if you select the transparent trailer screen icon during calibration that a progress bar is supposed to show up and it can apparently take up to several minutes to complete. I didn't do that previously so I'm anxious to try it the next time I'm hooked up.

I am having the same issue. The camera mounting height is correct and I have adjusted the camera angle multiple times. I have removed my spare tire and attempted calibration while in the transparent screen too. Should you sucessfully calibrate your camera, I am interested in what steps you took. I have a 2024 GMC 2500HD Sierra SLT.

I think I'm going to need someplace where I can tow the trailer straight and slow (under 30mph) for several minutes to get the transparent feature to calibrate. That opportunity hasn't arisen yet but I'll post if and when I can get it to work.

Thanks Mike, I look forward to your update. I have 1 more temporary adjustment I am going to make before attempting another calibration. I noticed that on my previous attempt, I could see the roof ladder in the screen. So I am going to make a temp extension to push the camera further back from the trailer so there will be no parts of the trailer visible during the calibration process. If successful, I will remove the temp extension and place the camera back on its mount. I'll do this later this week and let you know the results.

I have a Chevy 3500HD. I've put at least 10 miles of straight road on my truck/trailer below 31 MPH (usually set cruise at 29) and cannot get calibration to take effect. I have it mounted to my ladder so the only thing in the picture is the place where my spare tire would mount if it was attached. I took the tire off to assist with calibration. Anybody have to go longer than 10+ miles to get calibration? Am I just being impatient? I have it mounted within the "hotbox" the instructions specify. It's on the ladder because in the EXACT center of the hotbox the ladder is 20% of the screen.

Yes I did just yesterday as a matter of fact. 12 miles and the little hour glass was in top left corner

Solution for me was to aim camera way down so far I can actually see the very top of my bumper.
Then drove about 1.5-2 miles and came right up though a little off center.
Op may need to start from beginning due to having all green checks, mine had green for check for camera and red X for connecting

Hey guys, new to the forum here, having the same issue as you all. I have a 2024 Silverado 2500HD, have the camera mounted exactly as instructed. I have attempted calibration four times now, the first one was a bust because I didn't fully read the instructions. The last three runs were done exactly as instructed and all I get is "calibrating". It never completes the calibration process, I have burned through a half tank of gas trying to get this done but it will not complete calibration. I hope someone can figure this out, would be a shame to spend $650 bucks and not be able to use all of the capabilities.

I have made 4 attempts in calibrating my camera with no luck.
The latest attempt included fabricating a temporary extension off the camera support so that there were no obstructions (ladder) in the camera view. I also removed the spare tire.
I drove for approx 5 miles, under 30 mph, with the camera angle adjusted at 35 degrees downward.
I stopped and adjusted the camera angle down to just less than 40 degrees to where the bumper was just out of sight. Drive another 5 miles. No luck
Then I brought the camera back up to about 30 degrees, another 5 miles. No luck.
Note on my very first calibration attempt following the install, I got green check marks on all but the transparent view.
But I adjusted a few of the trailer dimensions ( height, and ball to front of trailer) and now have gotten no green check marks. Even after restoring the dimensions back to original values.
So I will try adjusting the camera down further as noted in the previous post and will post my results.

I still haven't had an opportunity to attempt another calibration, mainly because I don't have a place nearby where I can drive under 30 in a straight line for an extended time, but the feedback from some of you guys is not encouraging. Damn, it shouldn't be this hard. FWIW, I do get green check marks for the other features besides transparent view so maybe I'll have better luck when the time comes.

My transparent view camera would not calibrate either.... I found that the angle of the camera was not correct. I had to aim the camera downward a few more degrees then it calibrated very quickly after that.

Spread word ABSOLUTELY EVERYWHERE because GM won't listen. No matter how tall your trailer actually is, set it to 117 inches or less and it will work. I must have spent $30 in gas or more on my 2024 3500 HD driving around and once I changed that it was working before I even had a chance to notice that it was calibrating! Chevy support has no idea how to help, and the manual is useless!

I got pretty excited when I saw your post, but then I looked up the dimensions that I entered for the calibration and found that I had input 115" for the height of my trailer, which falls below your limit of 117". Anyway, I do have some other things to try the next time I have my rig hitched up. Thanks for the suggestion.

Two things made mine work after multiple attempts.
1. Angle the camera way lower than you would think ( like I can see the very top of my bumper).
2. Shut off truck, open and close door if someone else is backing to the trailer for you before connecting anything.
I was having issue getting it to work after the initial calibration because I was having the wife back up to the trailer leave idling while I connected.
Seems to work every time now
Hope this helps

Hi everyone the forum helped me a lot so this is my chance to give back to the community.
@MikeinCA - try taking off the BBQ mount.

I've attached a PDF of the helpful guide I have put together with all of my lesson's learned on this smart trailer system.
Hope this helps everyone in the future.

I set up transparent trailer on my 2024 silverado HD only to find out I had typo'd the trailer length number. This resulted in a perspective that was so messed up it was unusable. I made a correction to that one dimension and even though all the dimensions are within the limits given on the measurements page, I still get an error that dimension(s) are out of range. I tried the same numbers with the 117" limit to the height dimension and still get the same error. I've even deleted the trailer profile and tried from scratch with the same results. Has anyone else run into this?

Well here is my rub with this whole thing:

Didn't realize that the height from ground would be so critical. Instructions say that camera should be about 4 inches above your truck factory installed tailgate camera. To do that, I have to put it a few feet down from where I have it, but my trailer is a drop gate utility trailer, and to do so would put the camera on the ground when I drop the gate (which is bad for obvious reasons). The only way to mount it is on the top cross member, which is about 20" too high. So now what? I am just out of luck? Or is it really center of the back of the trailer and I can trick it by saying the trailer is taller than it really is? and the 4" guideline is hooey.....

I found that everything has to be right. I found out about the camera height and readjusted that. Readjusted the height measurement into the truck. Then after multiple trips found that the camera angle was on the incorrect setting by one demarcation of the housing. Corrected that and within a half mile of driving I got the transparent view. I don't use the truck that much (it's for pulling my toy hauler with motorcycles) so I didn't try it every time I made an adjustment, took me literally over 2 years to get it working.
