Truck Broken Into Through Door Handle (Pics)

Some asshat tried to break into my truck through the driver side lock. Fortunately, it seems like they didn't get in. For grins, I called the stealership to see what they would charge to fix this. They said parts and labor could run $900-$1000, so I'm not going that route. I'm thinking about taking the door panel off and seeing if the lock cylinder is in the door somewhere. Provided it's in there and not damaged, maybe I could repair it?

Anyone else ran into this? Thanks in advance for any input!

$900-$1000?!?!? WTF???

Someone did that to my truck and I paid $50 for a new handle and about 1/2 hour of my time to replace it. I actually wanted to make sure it didn't happen again so I got a rear door handle with no key hole.

No kidding...dealer can pound sand. I was thinking about the rear handle idea. I have AAA for a reason if the fob craps out haha. So a drivers-side passenger door handle is a direct fit on the drivers door (on a classic body style truck)?

I just had my LML completely re-keyed after it was stolen; was $187 labor & $189.20 for the cylinder, just on the driver door at the dealer. All the locks came out over $2200.

So the ignition keys for our trucks do not have chips in them to keep the thieves at bay?

My Classic does not have a chip in the key.

This has got me thinking of doing the rear door handle swap.. I never use the key, ever. Have keyfob and onstar mobile JIC.

Tore the door panel off this afternoon and found the lock cylinder. It's toast. The handle needs to be replaced as well. I have a good friend who runs a body shop. It will be about $200 for a new lock cylinder, coding the cylinder, and a new handle.

I'd like to just use a rear door handle, but with my luck I'm sure the fob would crap out when I'm in the middle of nowhere. Oh well, just thankful the moron didn't make it in or mess up the door trying to hammer on it more.
