Turbo vane position reads 51%
Do I just live with it or fix it
Have been clearing codes and has not gone into limp mode.
I tow a trailer 3500 kg most of the time and have to dial back the tune when not towing to reduce the codes
P2003A and P2563

Ive heard that using the exhaust brake even without a trailer helps keep the vanes and ring clean but i do not know if that would help you if your stuck at 51% with no range of motion.

You will definitely want to fix that, I ignored P2563 for a couple years with no issues, the third year I got to my destination with my 28' gooseneck and 8000lb load, truck had no power, if I tried to rev it up, it blew alot of black smoke. I don't know what position my vanes were in as I did not have a way to look. After it cooled down, it ran fine, dealt with that all summer. I replaced the turbo, figured I was there, why take a chance, I did split the old turbo, the unison ring was seized to the hub it sits on, pried it off, cleaned the hub of rust, I believe if I had to use the old turbo, it would work.

Definitely want to fix that. I'd pull the stocker and clean it up.

Replaced turbo pulled the old one apart and the unison ring was cracked and the housing pitted
What a difference the new one is
I went with a new unit as it was a big job and didn’t want to do it again using a repaired one

Glad you got it fixed, that was my theory, and too did not want to do it twice.

Mine was pretty clean inside and no amount of product would have fixed the cracked unison ring and pitted housing and travelled 460000 klms
Full performance restored and came with new boost control and vane position sensors
Glad I got the new turbo

For those who now more than I do (which is most of you Im sure) I have a question about his Turbo.

Which came first, the stuck vanes or the cracked ring?

The reason I ask is to see if keeping the vanes clean, with Waynes or some substance like this would have prevented the ring from cracking:

In other words, would cleaning the turbo with something like this be a good Preventative Maintenance procedure.
