Has anyone removed their Up-pipes while the turbo is in the valley and the cab is not off the truck?
I got a set of the RDL Up pipes, and im not going to enjoy the install...
I have already removed my heatshields.
Anyone have any tips or tricks on how to make it easier? Im planning on removing the turbo, and replacing it with a baby cheetah since i sold my 4094...
If it's out mind as well make it bigger...
Pipes will be getting a jet-hot coating this week.
Also, EGR will be deleted.

Good lord... good luck!! I obviously have never done it, and I don't think many of the members here will have either. If you're going that far, why not just pull the motor out? By the time you get done fighting, I'd imagine you'll probably wish you did in the first place.

I just got a set of RDL up-pipes as well. Bought them used. Thats the only reason I went ahead and bought them. Im not gonna even attempt doing it myself. Im gonna pay Lary Reisner(He built the 7.1 stroker in town) to do it. Im curious though. When installing the up-pipes do you have to completely delete the EGR or do you just have the block it off or whatever?

You can see MMLMM's idea in my engine bay. :D
Either completely delete the egr, or remove cooler, tie in coolant lines, and make a 3/16's plate for the egr motor assembly.
The problem isnt the egr itself, its th eintake manifold thats the problem, you need to have something that can suppoort the weight of the intake if the egr assembly isnt there.

You will need to either block or remove EGR. To remove EGR, you will need a plate and 2 spacers to hold the Intake up. The plate I designed bolts uner the intake cross piece and and then 2 of the bolts go all the way down with 2 spacers in there to rest the intake, as it will need to be supported.

The other option is to remove the EGR cooler and put a plate there on the EGR motor. That way the EGR motor/plunger housing still supports the intake.

You will also need to splice your EGR cooler line together.

You also have a lb7 and you can fit a small child behind your motor.. :D

You can remove them with everything in place. Get them from the wheel wells. Buy a few GOOD quality 12 point 12mm sockets. 1/2" breaker bar and some patience will get it done. Do the pass. side first and reach all the bolts from there. The pass. side of the engine is stagered forward, so more room.
Sounds good Rob, thank you. It sounds easier than it looks but halfway i will ask myself what did i get myself into. :rof

Thats the way ive always done it, I use a long handled flex head 3/8 drive snap on wratchet, but i rip the gears out everytime i do one!! Have atleast 1 good deep well and one good shallow 12pt socket, you will probally break atleast one tool befor your done along with some skin!! No need to rip the whole truck apart!

this is a dumb question....what are the up pipes? are they on both sides of the engine? was thinking of doing the bd manifold. should I hold off and just do the up pipes along with doing a diamond eye turbo pipe. want to do an egr delete but stuck in kalifornia smog is coming. already did the blocker plate, could I reroute the coolant lines, put a plate or sheet metal in between the intake, and egr motor. so it looks like the egr is still there for smog? Thanks

honda rider if you dont mind me asking what do you do for a living to be able to pay for all of this stuff? im 19 also and i make pretty good money for my age and can buy some sweet stuff for my truck but not at the rate you go! lol

I worked for my dad and uncle starting at age 12 for a demolition company in california, ACR contracting. 8 hours a day during summer and everyday after school in a bobcat.
I now work at

&
Ragin' Diesel (Home)

I put the go fast goodies on some diesels here in AZ.
not too busy, but its steady.
I also have bought 90% of my mods used.
Truck was used with 8200 miles on it when I bought it and im still paying $422/month on it.
The only thing my dad helped pay for was my transmission, i bought the kit, he paid Mike L. to put it in ($1200)
I got the up pipes from RDL at a price I cannot even post. Didnt even hurt the wallet if you get what im saying.

RDL ?? Do these guys make the headers that a couple fellas on here are running as well ?? I'm thinking they might be a nice addition to the truck.

So.....baby Cheetah bawanna ??

Todd this would be kick A$$ on on your lmm with the twins.
Rick D Lance only makes the full log style headers and up pipes, or just the up pipes for the oem manifolds now. Thinking about a cheetah quite a bit. talked to brayden about the 68mm for 1700 bucks...mind as well do it if i pull my turbo.

yep that is correct he has two versions of each thing. the tow and the pro! is there any videos of trucks with the full pro setup running besides the motor on the engine dyno? i would love to hear what it sounds like and how fast it spools the turbo..
Only Pro series now.
NWTDIESEL has a set on his lb7 with his a5k and it spools as fast as my stock charger.
