So this weekend, the weather's been nice in Wisconsin, and so I decided to get started on my spring maintenance and replacing my front hubs, drilled and slotted brake discs and ceramic pads, and Bilsteen 5100 series shocks. First thing, started on the back, being I had half a day on Friday and thought should be able to get it done. Let me tell you the brake caliper bolts are TIGHT! I actually snapped a T55 socket trying to break the brake pad housing loose. Word of advice: always have a large breaker bar handy and always plan for something else to go wrong! When I dove into the drivers side brake rotor I found grease all over inside the rotor. Bad seal. Still need to get that fixed. Took Saturday and Sunday just to do the front end, hubs, shocks and brakes. Then I bled the brakes and replaced all my brake fluid with new synthetic Amsoil brake fluid and did the hydroboost/power steering flush as in the DIY section. I replace my front hubs/bearings following the DIY section too. It was easy just as the DIY section said. I like to think I know my truck and when things are going bad. But because things wear out slowly, you never know the extent of just how bad they are until you replace them. Now my truck rides very nice, no more jarring and brakes are firm and tight! My front end and steering is tight as well. I also took out he K&N air filter and replaced with a Amsoil AE filter and cleaned the MAF sensor. What an improvement there too, and it doesnt smoke anymore at idle. I also installed the MED accelerator spring from Killerbee. I still have to replace all my fluids, install the Amsoil bypass, and replace my tie rods for HD tie rods and replace my idler and pitman arms. That will have to wait for another weekend. One question though. Should I wait to replace the rear diff fluid until I get the rear driver side seal taken care of? I would hate to have the shop top of the fluid and mix the Amsoil fluid with their regular stuff. I know this is long but I felt like I had to tell everyone.
