Good to know. If I recall correctly, the Nicktane adapter for the previous generation fuel filter specified not using the center gasket, that is what made me wonder.

I'll put on the center gasket when I do my next filter change. Thanks.
Using the gasket came straight from Donaldson tech after I emailed them. Weird thing is that some of the filters like the dbf5814 don't come with the gasket but I think they are reusable as along as they fit tight to the adapter.

My DBF5814 and my P551313 both didn't come with the center thread gasket. It was just the P551329.
I am assuming that the secondary 4um filter design doesn't require it while the primary does. Glad I am not the only one questioning it...

I emailed Donaldson and they told me the dbf5814 was supposed to have it but they don't sell the gaskets separately which is ridiculous. Told me to return the filters.

What does VSE say about it?
I have called and emailed several times. I got a response to my first email asking what gaskets I was talking about then never got another response after several follow ups.

They were very responsive to my pre-sales questions, but not so much to any support questions.

I bought the VSE set up back in August and just like JonM said the blue clip was such a pain that I decided not to install it. If anyone is interested, I would knock some money off this brand new in the box kit. The VSE wasn’t very helpful. I talked to Brandon and another guy and didn’t get much help. They even admitted they don’t know what the part number is for the blue tab.

What email did you use? I cannot get Donaldson to respond to emails, website submissions or calls for the life of me.

Anyone interested in my VSE kit? It’s brand new never installed. I can’t post in classifieds unless moderator approves.
Head to the intro section and make a hello post. Tell us about yourself, hobbies, job, whatever. You'll be past the post limit quickly. It will also help build some credibility. People tend not to buy stuff from those who don't have some kind of established reputation.

In case anyone needs the information in the future. I finally got a decent response from Donaldson.

The DBF5814 and P551313 are designed such that they do not require a thread post seal gasket. The P551329 does require a thread post seal gasket.

PurposeFilterThread Post Seal Gasket Required
Primary/Water Separation Donaldson P551329Yes
Secondary (4m) (What VSE supplies)Donaldson P551313No
Secondary (3m)Donaldson DBF5814No

Donaldson also said the thread post seal gasket is not considered a serviceable item, so if you receive the P551329 (or another filter that is supposed to include one) and it is not under the factory shrink wrap it needs to be returned to the retailer you purchased it from. It is considered an incomplete product.

Moral of the story, be sure you use the hopefully included thread post seal gasket on the P551329 when you replace the fuel water separator filter on your VSE filter kit.

OK folks riddle me this... After looking at the VSE video on Post #61, it appears the end of the WIF probe is still about 1 1/2" to 2" from the bottom of the water separator. That in turn would make the WIF probe in the Fleece filter about 3" - 3 1/2" from the bottom (based on P553203 vs P551320 filter length). In either case, there will be a substantial amount of water in the filter before the WIF probe is triggered. Considering the passive / active Twist & Drain WIF probes Donaldson offers will trigger when water reaches the base of the filter element (same as how the OEM operates), is there really any advantage between the Fleece and VSE offerings (VSE nearly 3X the price of the Fleece) - other than being able to run a P553202 / P553207 / P553217 with additional water separation capability in the VSE as an additional safeguard?

The VSE has another filter AFTER the water sensor (just like the OE has with the center bit). The single filter set ups have NOTHING after the sensor but your injection pump and injectors.

the fleece is a single filter system and it will send water through the system before you get a water in fuel warning as the probe in the huge filter fleece is using the oem water sensor sits above where the fuel pick up is.

there is no water drain on the fleece setup.

I had considered the fleece until I started reading how the oem setup worked.

the vse system replicates the oem dimensions for the primary filter and adds in a post filter at 3 micron size that will not see water in fuel before the primary filter sends a warning message.

if you are not going to use the vse stick with oem as the oem setup is better than the fleece. the oem filter setup does a really good job as it is. it's just a little more difficult to change filter elements due to the cartridge system and you don't have post filtration.
