I just bought a 04 duramax with 68k miles. I understand that the duramax has a warranty for 5yrs or 100k. My truck has 4" bully dog stainless exhaust, a bully dog programer, and a AFE Stage 2 air box. I know if I bring it to the chevy dealership I need to return the computer to stock first, but do I need to put the original air box back in? Someone told me that if you put K&N filter in it would void the warranty because the K&N filter oil can screw up one of the sensors. Does anyone know the answer to this?? Thanks Andy

I would think if you delt with a fare dealership they wouldnt say anything.....i have never heard anything about a k&N Doing anytthing like that. But i may be wrong.....whenever i did anyhting to my truck i asked the dealership if they would back me if anything went wrong.....although we have bought a bunch of trucks off of them in the past....so i guess it all depends on what kinda of people you are dealing with..good luck:fart

Oiled filters tend to get over oiled by owners, which can suck oil into the intake, coat the intake temp probe, and cause false readings. In very extreme cases it can coat the compressor blades and even the inside of the intercooler causing the intercooler to loose effectiveness. Also K&N is known for letting in alot of dirt. You may want to look into installing an Amsoil Dry filter in place of the K&N.

You must have misunderstood me. I don't have a k&N, i have a afe stage 2. Is this the same? I dont really know if it is a oiled or dry filter. I need to find that out. Thanks, Andy

If you have any doubt with your dealership, put the stock airbox back in. I do it with my dealership and it only takes about 10 mins to change out the airbox. Other than that, you could talk to the service manager at your dealership and ask them what they think of the cold air intakes. As far as the AFE filter, it is oiled like a K&N.
