Throw a bunch of grease in there before you clean everything off. Check to see if any fresh grease leaks out. If so, your boot is blown and you need new ball joints. Otherwise, it may have just been overfilled from the last greasejob and it attracted road gunk and grime. Once you refill and confirm no seepage, use some brakleen and wipe everything down and you'll be good to go.

As previously stated though, start including everything you can see in the undercarriage in to your scrubbing routine. A little time to that can save you big headaches down the line
