What is the shelf life of a fuel filter

Just curious can a fuel filter be two years old when installed and be as good as a new one. I ask because I dont drive that many miles and I want to keep a extra fuel filter in the truck when on trips but it may well be two years old when I change it. I wil never travel enough miles to change it sooner than the 2 year old rule. Also sense there are dates stamped on the filter, if there was a warranty issue and the date on the filter was 3 years old would that be a issue?

Ive seen some in parts stores that have probably been there that long, i wouldnt run it but thats just me, it would probably be fine.

Probably not. Rubber usually only degrades from UV light exposure. As long as the gasket/O-ring isn't exposed to sunlight for long periods of time it shouldn't be affected at all.

I have one sealed up with clear packing tape - just in case I get some bad fuel somewhere. I did get one of those aux fuel filters from the lubrication guy and it makes changing a fuel filter a snap and it's upstream from the factory one so it should catch the bad stuff.

The ACDelco TP3012 filters' O-rings come in a separate sealed plastic bag, so the rubber shouldn't dry out. Also, if you keep them out of the light, I'd say the O-rings and other filter parts will be OK for very very long time. If you're worried about dirt getting into the filter while being stored in your cab or toolbox, you can just seal it shut with tape or put it inside a freezer baggie.

LOL - you'll probably be out of warranty before you install it.
Seriously, I buy six at a time. So, it may be a while before the 6th one gets used.
And, I've never looked at the stamped date anyway. They may've been 2 years old when I first got them.
If you don't leave 'em out in the rain, they'll be good for many, many years.
