I have a 2003 Chevy Silverado 2500 and it’s at that point I need to replace my transfer case unfortunately.

I’ve heard good things about both merchant auto’s transfer case with the pump rub kit in it and also the Dmax Store T-Case with no pump rub.

I’m having a hard time picking which one to go with, would love some input on what people prefer and why. I also need to replace my encoder motor.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Merchant Auto all the way. Brand new, not "rebuilt", pump rub already addressed, no core charge BS to deal with, and they're a great company. No issues with mine from MA whatsoever. I recommend grabbing a transfer case brace from them while you're at it. Cheap insurance to help protect from cracking the transmission tail housing which is very expensive to fix. I think the brace is around $100.

I got a new tcase from the dealership and a ppe brace from dmax store, the case is new and upgraded the brace is not too bad since the case is out and you can get to the back of the bellhousing easier. Only like six bolts, but makes the launch more solid so well worth the $. My bill from the dealership for the case and install was around $2800. But that was pre covid...

You can price compare to http://www.transfercases.com/ Installing the pump rub kit is not hard. I did a stamped steel liner vs the complete gear housing and that was 80K ago or more.

The brace is a top support that is not hard to install. I think it's 4 or 8 bolts total and half of them are already out as they are the ones that hold the transfer case to the rear of the trans.
