my brother serviced my truck and put in 3 gallons of oil. I don't have a fancy fomoto drain plug. Will it hurt my engine I have a LML

Remove the oil filter-- dump and reinstall-- do that a couple times--IF it is overfull. Not a good idea to run over full.

ran 12 quarts of oil every oil change last 80k miles hasn't hurt anything yet 10 quarts in my opinion is not enough.

If your dipstick shows perfect, your good.... If it is truly overfull and shows it on the dipstick, you need to drain some.

Just make sure its not just from the fill tube. You will have a oil line completely around the stick where the oil level actually is.

Ok dumb question here...I could imagine if oil is overfilled to the point of the crankshaft hitting oil and splashing that would be bad right?

What else would it hurt to be a lil overfull? Only reason I ask if because I run mine a lil overfull sometimes. I run synthetic oil and my opinion is the oil filter can't last as long as the oil, so I change the filter half way thru the oil.

Every 5k filter, every 10k oil+filter. Well when there is only a quart or so left in the oil jug I just dump it in, I hate having half full leaky/seeping oil containers laying around making a mess. Even with my car, it calls for 4.5 quarts... I always dump in 5.

I dont think youre over by much or any. Remove the oil filter & adding a qt, is about what the oil filter holds I believe. Being over 1-2+ qts is another thing.

Each engine is different. Some don't like being 1 quart over, and I've seen an engine with 6 quarts over, not smoking or running bad. The engineers decide on a number for various reasons (pcv influence? Seal proximities, oil temps, etc.), and some that we may not understand, so I try to never go over that number.
