I have 8,100 or so hours. I usually plug it in before i go to bed at 10 or 11 and unplug it when i start it the next morning around 8. I let it run for 20 mins or so.

I too would like to know how to hook up the heated seat to the autostart!

Don't feel bad about your winters. I live in north pole Alaska and winter has been here for a while now Lol.

As for faster warm ups. Use efi and close the turbo vanes at idle. I have mine set around 90% if I remember correctly. Also install the winter front and plug the block heater in. If it gets really cold where you live. I would install a 150watt oil pan heater 100 watt transmission pan heater and a trickle charger on the battery's.
I have family that live in North pole, i was just up there last summer for a couple weeks

I will try to answer this in one post. The biggest thing you can do for warmth as your are coasting to a stop light is have a winter front on. Traditionally the winter front was used to shorten warm up times but now that the new trucks use a de-gas coolant bottle and run a coolant bypass through the block the thermostat takes care of the warm up for you. Once you get it warm though you can keep it warm with the winter front when coasting to stoplights and such.

As for the car starters... I myself put all my trust in the AstroStart! They are the best and I have had one in all of my trucks. You can tell if you have the right installer for a diesel if they know how to hook it up to the glow plug light instead of the delay timer. The system looks for the glow plug light to go out and hammers the old girl right off (Beautiful). As for you heated seats that is also a good installer. I do not have leather seats but my father does in his D-Max and he has AstroStart and has his heated seats hooked up to his trunk button. He starts his truck and then hits the truck buttons. It just excites the button in the door and clicks the seats on full level bottom and back. Probably one of the sweetest things I have ever seen. Really with an extra button you can do anything I had a buddy that used to open his garage door with his AstroStart he just wired the trunk button into his garage door opener.

Hope that helps.

PS get a bottle of 911 in the truck and learn how to take your filter off before it snows. It will save you a lot of cussing later.

I have a Auto start, Winter Front, coolant circulating pump and a bloc heater.

The circulating pump is the best this ever. I have it on a timer, it comes on 3 hrs before i get up. I auto start my truck and its already blowing hot air as if its been cruising down the high way. Even when its -30c its nice and warm in the truck.

As for the Diesle 911, This has saved me a couple of times as i driving in northern Manitiba alot. Bets being stranded on the side of the road.

Where in Canada are you?

These trucks will start just fine pretty much as cold as you can possibly get em, so long as they have good batteries and fuel that isn't gelled up. No need to worry about them not starting. I've fired mine off without cycling the glowplugs at all a couple times when we had a really really cold snap of -20*F weather in the 09-10 winter. Never skipped a beat.

Just put the winter front on and thats about all you can do.

Now if you want to warm it up faster, don't waste fuel by idling it for 20 minutes, just let it run for 30 seconds, maybe a minute then drive it. Idling doesn't create enough heat to actually warm the truck up. It actually puts more wear on the engine idling it for extended times than it does by driving it to warm it up.

Nothing. I live in Central CA, so I just let my current car (a Durango) heat up for a bit on cool mornings (in the 30's or 20's) before driving it. Plan to do the same with the truck once it gets here.

I little extra wight on the back end helps out. But nothing else other than really good snowtires. I only plugged her in twice last winter. It hit -20F and started right up....a little slowly but still started without being plugged in.

Any of you guys put any weight in the box of your truck for better traction while in 2wd? If so how much weight? My box is usually empty, and I don't have a tool box or anything.

I've cranked mine at -15 after only cycling the glow plugs once and it fired right up. Damn thing takes forever to start making heat though. I was gonna get a remote start but theyre worthless to me, because I am not going to start it 35 minutes early just so it will blow a little heat into the cab, and I can't turn on my heated seats with a remote start. If I could do that or even just leave them turned on like you can in other cars.

So I decided not to buy one because all I care about is whether or not my seat is warm. As for weight, I usually have about 600 or 700 lbs of sand bags in the bed. But I very rarely use 4wd.
