I just went to shut my truck off and it kept running for about a minute with key out of ignition... The check engine light was dimmly lit at the same time.. When i re-started it the check engine light was on with a code for no glow plug light? and there isnt one. The glow plug light no longer comes on with bulb check or at start up....

Each time i shut truck off it keeps running for at least a minute then shuts off on its own.. I have aftermarket remote starts or anything that would remotely interfere....

wiring

this truck has had alot of problems lately, all seem to be wiring. It would nt start one day...wiring.... radio stop working... wiring..So i am assuming this is wiring as well....It all started with no signs... My diagnostics seems to point in the way of an ecm or possibly a short in the wiring from the ecm.....

im down to either the vats system is messing with mine or possible ecm, now ive got a check engine light again after i installed a different tune so im not sure what the hell is going on yet

i disconnected batteries for 1 hour. the re-connected them. truck was good for 3 starts. then started acting up again.

no it doesnt run on, it keeps running as it would if the key was on. no glow plug light on start up and occasionaly truck will not even turn over

Any updates on this?

Mine started having this issue this past weekend. It won't shut off with the key turned back, but all the electronics shut off, key comes out. Check engine light stays on in the dash.

Like to hear what the fix i$....

no vats in lmm, pk3 (chip in key).
no...VATS is the generic name for it...

yes, there were various different types of VATS over the years, passlock 1, passlock 2, passkey, passkey3, etc.......

sometimes people refer to the old resistor pellet systems as "vats", as if thats the actual name for that specific system, but that is not true.

its a nomenclature thing....but VATS is the universal name for any type of GM immobilizer system used throughout the years, all the way back to the late 80's/early 90's when it was first introduced.

The glow plug module on some vehicle goes bad and causes problems. I suggest you replace the glow plug relay first and see if the problem goes away-- then the module, if still problem.

The next would be the ignition switch-- many has had problems with the switch.

there is no glow plug relay like on other diesels......

the glow plugs are controlled by the GPCM (glow plug control module) alone; its all solid state/computerized. Second, a bad GPCM wouldnt cause the engine to keep running. If anything it (a bad GPCM) might make it shut off; if something shorted out internally and it crashed the highspeed GMLAN bus.

I also highly doubt an ignition switch is causing this problem. Everything is done via the data bus in these trucks so a bad/intermittant ignition switch rarely causes issues like this.

get the ECM reflashed first.
