Hey, I'm a newbie to posting on here although I've used and followed threads for a while but with all the searching and knowledge I have been able to learn, I'm still comin up short on this thing...SO a couple weeks ago I was just driving home from some soccer fields and stopped to fill up. Shut the truck off and filled er up, started it up and I saw "service 4x4" displayed on my dash and I put the truck into drive just with my foot on the brake and it clunked pretty good so I realized it went into limp mode, I've delt with that before a few times just from pushing the trans too much doing some pulls so I went to shut it off cleared the U2106 code with my bullydog tuner and started it back up and had the same issue. I repeated again but this time the truck wouldn't crank. I had full ignition power but it wouldn't even try. It was late and I just wanted to get home so instead of messing with it much I just went straight to the starter with my screw driver and jumped it that way and limped it home where its been sitting. Since then I have tested all the fuses and relays, I tried a returnable TCM from eBay lol, I checked for power and ground at the tcm. I have checked for power at the NSBU switch and ground, I checked the stupid little IGN 0 fuse on the driver side cab fuse box, wasn't that lucky, and I checked as much of the wire loom from the TCM as I could get to, I'm just coming up short.

Would really appreciate any help on where to turn to next and how to test to make sure my NSBU switch is actually good but I'm not sure if that's also related to the service 4x4 light...Any ideas?

U2106 is lost communication with the TCM. Scan your truck for codes, there may be others.

Okay so I went and got a decent scanner from the parts store today and threw it on the truck, it wouldn't give me any codes without starting it, but I started it with the screwdriver again and got a ton of codes...pretty overwhelming lol I haven't had any time to look them up and see what exactly relates to what but this is the codes and descriptions it gave me not going to leave any out in case somehow they relate?...

B0268 - HVAC air flow control 7 circuit
B1375 - HVAC device ignition 3 circuit malfunction
U1000 - IPC class 2 data link malfunction
U1000 - SIR class 2 data link malfunction
P1621 - ECM transmission control module long term memory performance
U2106 - ECM lost communication with transmission control system
P1621 - EHPS transmission control module long term memory performance
U2106 - EHPS lost communication with transmission control system
B1440 - BCM Power mode master input circuits mismatch

Some of these seem pretty irrelevant but I just wanted to include them incase somehow they are related electronically?

Thanks for the response!

Alright so after much investigation I did end up figuring out the issue. There ign 40amp fuse had blown. Now its almost been a year since my original post so I obviously just changed the fuse and It worked for me for a while but then randomly my fuse would blow again. I went through this process far too long but it got me by. I ended up tracing a grayish purple wire from the starter to the fuse box, that wire had rubbed on the block enough to wear a nice hole in it and gave every opportunity to short out. Now that wire was seriously tucked in there on the passenger side of the oil pan behind the oil cooler lines I believe. Hope this helps somebody.
