Technical Service Bulletin PIT5374

From the TSB:
Technical Service Bulletin PIT5374 ........
Here is some of the wording of the TSB for applicable build dates, although there is more detailing part numbers of the new bulbs and labor hours to be used for the work. Warranty may or may not be covered, depending on the status of your original 3/36 OEM warranty. Talk to your service manager ....

For vehicles built before 12/23/14 at Flint Assembly (11th Vin Digit "F"), 1/13/15 at Silao Assembly (11th Vin Digit "G") or 1/16/15 at Ft. Wayne Assembly (11th Vin Digit "Z"), reprogram the BCM with the latest calibration available in TIS2WEB starting on 1/12/2015. The new BCM calibration will increase the voltage to the headlight bulbs in both the low beam and high beam selections.Important: All vehicles built after the above dates already have the new BCM calibrations and the BCM reprogramming does NOT need to be performed.

New Bulbs are also part of the TSB, made by Vosla.

3/5/15 UPDATE: This Update ONLY APPLIES TO GMC's.

Copy of the TSB can be found here:

Yes, thank you. I was getting ready to buy HID's for my truck that is being built this week... I think I will wait and see what the stock lights are like being they have made some changes.

Glad this was posted. Set up an appointment on 3/16 at my dealer. They'll be performing this.
Be sure to give us an update on the difference. Or better yet, take a picture of the lights before and after the update... :)

I wouldn't think so as the HID's have their own ballast. Hence the 35w and 55w systems.

Trying to get this done today thanks OP

I doubt you will get it done today, you need to call the dealer and have them order the new bulbs, which I doubt they have in stock yet.

Here's the way I understand it, after reading a long thread on GM-Truck about it. Don't take this as fact, as I am just repeating what I have read:

1)Owners that have a HID Kit or LED bulb installed in place of the factory halogen will not see any difference in performance because the bulbs are driven off of a ballast or LED driver & you have already installed a capacitor for the HID kit to work properly during DRL operation and LED bulbs operate at a very low voltage that the driver has filtered down from the incoming 12v.

2) Even if you have a HID or LED bulb kit installed, it would be worth having done while under warranty to prevent issues down the road. After the 3/36 warranty period is up, it will be up to the dealer to who covers cost. Purchased extended warranties will not cover this. All new trucks rolling off the line now have the update.

Okay so I picked up the truck from the dealer yesterday after they fix my tailgate lock which was actually the wrong cylinder installed at the factory and they tend to different windows as well to match the rear. While I was there I asked my service advisor about the TSB and he said sure bring them in tomorrow and will get it done but I'm going to call him back today before I bring it in to make sure they have the bulbs so I don't end up leaving it there for 2,3 or four days.

Talked to the service advisor and he said they have to order the bulbs in as there are none in the entire state.

Went by mine this morning and the service manager had no clue as to what I was talking about. After educating him, he looked more in depth into the issue and found the PIT number referenced by the TSB. He printed it out right there and took it to the parts department to order the bulbs required in the TSB. I still find it amusing that the general public are always the ones educating the "Professionals" at the stealerships. Man...I just cringe at the thought of having to take my truck to any dealership.

So I just want to make sure that I am correct in by saying that a Service Manager who runs an entire department is required to know that a PI for your truck is out and should be fully informed when you come in asking questions about this. I mean they should know everything about every single vehicle that gets manufactured. Then you educating them is the truth. So do us a favor and just keep fixing this yourself because you are the expert and only one who should turn a wrench on your truck. They should just open a tool box and give you all the parts you need when your truck breaks down... because you are the expert

Good thing I double checked, my dealer doesn't have them on the shelf and they have to order them. They said they'll have them there for my 3/16 service date....

*Cancelled 3/16 apt - rescheduled for 4/11

Mods please delete two previous posts. Lets keep this on track with facts and Q & A's.

Yeah you really understand service...you are also a hypocrite with regards to your view of dealership workers. I believe you are quoted as saying that they "sound like they are not being truthful..." In a previous post. This couldn't have come from such a saint as yourself recently self proclaimed protector of dealers. I have had lots of dealership workers not even able to explain to me the features of a vehicle that they sell. Not sure what line of work you are in but knowledge of your JOB is important in mine.

This is true because in that case it did not sound as if they were truthful. Not all dealers are a like nor are two workers alike. I bet if you surveyed all of your colleagues with the same questions you would get so many different answers. It is impossible to have uniformity across every employee no matter how hard you try. People lie cheat and steal in every industry. So find a quality person to work with and spend money with them if not do not bring your truck into a dealer. I bet you they will be happy to have one less whiny, picky, nagging person at the door.
