Be mindful each state has its own regulation regarding window tint. Where OP resides or commonly commutes the situation may be different. As i understand it too, some counties in the South may further restrict the state statute. Dam smokies.

But depending where you live will also vary if its actually priority for the Officer to stop you for it. They may not care and or it may not even be a primary offence (meaning its summonsable but you have to be stopped for a different reason - not just window tint) that being said, an 80k truck with window tint would probably be given more discretion than a 97 accord murdered out doing 70 down a side street with a fart can

Personally, i did 20 over my factory rears and front sides are at 5 with a 20 brow and it matches all around. Rear windows from the factory do not come with a film, it's compressed between the laminate so it works a little differently. Typically, they measure on a meter 17% +/-2, so figure 15. But a 15 film and 15 factory, the film will appear darker. If you just want to match the back go 15 on the fronts and youll be good.

(I used to work at a detail shop that did window tinting as well)
Local police carry light meters to measure light transmission through the windows. Any less than what is allowed and you get a ticket. If the tinting is factory or dealer, they usually let it go. If aftermarket custom, you get a ticket.

Best bet is to roll all the windows down and if its dark out turn on the interior lights if you get pulled over. I have friends in law enforcement they hate walking up to car when they cant see inside. 20% on the fronts never had an issue since 2001 in PA

I always do. It definitely puts them at ease. They definitely are at ease when I give them my license and LTC, tell them I am armed, and keep my hands on top of the steering wheel where they can see them. You can almost hear a sigh of relief.
