Anyone know where to find a class V 5/8's receiver pin? Don't really see much point in having a class V system, when it's basically impossible to find a class V rated hitch pin! What are you guys using? Or where are you finding your components?

Hi-I didn't have any trouble finding a 5/8" pin, but the hitch on my truck (2012) is a class V that takes a 2 1/2" ball mount so the pin needs to be longer than the 2" type. Amazon also has several of these, locking and not locking and are cheaper than I could find locally. Bill

Bolt, hardened steel, stainless steel or titanium with 2 nuts or 1 locknut will work. No one says you ahve to have a pin except the people who sell them.

If the world were perfect, it wouldnt be.

Thanks for the replies guys, TSC is one place I haven't been yet. Was hoping I wouldn't have to order it bc I need it tomorrow. If all else failed I was going to go with a hardened bolt until I found a pin.

I just like the convenience of the turn of a key and off, since I dont leave it on anyways. If I left it on all the time, Id be good with a bolt. I just have a pintle receiver, a 2" set up and a 2 5/16 set up depending on what im pulling. My main thing was, I just converted everything over to use the 2-1/2 receiver tube, instead of using the reducer and wanted to make sure all my components were at least classV rated.

If it's a 5/8" and it's long enough, then your set. Any store-bought Reese/Draw-tite (same) pin will work.

The shear point load is the downward tongue weight, the hitch and ball mount handles that.
Any shear pressure on the pin comes from your right foot, which won't break it.

I got a locking hitch pin (Reese brand) that fits a 2 or 2-1/2 in. receiver, 5/8 in. diameter @ Home Depot. Rated for class 4 & 5.

at the farm & fleet store here, they sell the towing pin and clip in the automotive section for like $6. Walk halfway across the store to the farm section and they have a variety of lengths of the 5/8" pin for under $2.

Worth noting, not all Class V pins are long enough to fit the 2011/2012 trucks. I bought one from an on-line trailer store, but it didn't fit my truck because it wasn't long enough.

I saw some at walmart. Class V..not the locking type, just a pin. Yours didnt come with a pin? Mine came with an adapter that drops to class IV and a pin.

no pin, just the reducer... One of those things you dont really think about or worry about when you are signing the next five years away to Ally... lol... I guess I could have asked the dealership, but i didn't know it was supposed to come with one.

Then use a grade 8 or higher grade titanium nut and then a locknut after you torque it for double security. Since shen would a cotter key or pin give it shear protection. If you want to get fancy, get a Class 4 fit titanium bolt and drive it in with a hammer and then double nut it with titanium nuts, drilling one for a safety wire, torqued to the SAE specs table and use loctite just in case, then safety wire per the Aircraft Safety Wire Specs with stainless steel wire. All it really needs is a Class 8 bolt with an ordinary locknut. Been using them for years. No one ever stole mine either.

Most of the goods ones are at 32k lbs. - that's in a double shear.

There's one on Amazon at 40k, one of the Tri-Max units, I believe.
