I own and have owned a 2011 Duramax since new and noticed my dash cracked by the passenger side airbag which was an instant sickening feeling in the stomach :( I have heard of prior year trucks having these issues, but nothing of the sort with these models..Currently the truck was dropped off to get this fixed along with other issues- top light leaking, ac vent trim coming off, rear cup holder binding, grease/oil constantly leaking from seats, and some frame rust in 2 specific spots where undercoating is peeling. Also had that weird dash noise but solved this by rotating the heater hose under the hood thanks to this forum and the members. Otherwise everything else seems to be fine knock on wood. Truck currently has a little over 9000 miles. When the service advisor looked at the crack in my dash or should I say when I told him about it, he didn't seem the least surprised..? Said they would replace it and look into/fix the other issues with the truck. Wondering if anyone else out there has had any similar problems or am I having some bad luck. Also, wondering if the new dash they are putting in will be an upgraded "Plastic" dash..?? I noticed the 2014 models now have vinyl dashes..wonder why the change, hmm? This is my first Duramax that I have owned.

My seats are also leaking grease on my nice carpet!!!! Pisses me off.

I do remember dashes cracking on older trucks, but I hoped that was fixed... Gm being cheap again.

The cracked dash is common on these trucks, my 09 had the same problem. My seats also leak grease, I better stop putting it off and take it to get serviced.

Thats interesting because the service advisor only said older years have had this problem not 11-13 models..As for the grease leaking, that makes 3 of us now..lol I finally took my truck in to get my issues resolved when I saw the crack in the dash. I would take yours in as well before warranty expires. I'm not sure what the fix is going to be but I will keep you posted.

48548- I know the exact feeling..I'm constantly wiping that grease off the sides and it always comes back like you said leaking on my nice black carpet. As for the dash, that's a sad thing because I have heard nothing but good about these trucks or maybe that was the Motor and Allison that I heard nothing but good about..and the other parts have their flaws..hoping to not have any other issues. On a diff note, I noticed you have an Inyati bedliner..how does your tailgate open..easy or hard?? I had the dealer LineX my bedliner when I bought my truck and ever since the tailgate is a pain the ass to open, have to push forward on the top. Seems they went a little thick on the bottom coating of the gate...

Tailgate opens perfect. I like it. Here are some pics. Are you back east? Asking because of the rust. The frame has a wax coating on it and it does come off. I just use rubberized undercoating on the frame when metal is exposed.

This one shows the edge maybe they went to far with the undercoating and it is causing the tailgate to hit it.

Live in South FL. Will add that to my sig. As for your truck, liner looks great! What bed mat is that? Wanted to add one to my truck in fear of taking a chunk out of the lineX when putting stuff in the bed. And what assist dampeners are those on the lift gate? As for my rear gate, yea I have sat in the bed and closed the gate and the lineX definitely rubs/comes into contact with the bed just a little too soon before closing causing a difficult closing and a difficult opening..wonder how a certified Line X place messed that up..guess I'm SOL on that part now..and been dealing with it. Don't think LineX or the dealer would do anything about it. Whenever the friends or family open the gate, they always ask is something wrong or is it locked, I tell them no it's a Duramax and you have to put some muscle into opening and closing it LOL!!!

Awesome! Thanks for the links. What's the difference in the bed rug versus the protecta other then the price. Guessing they are both pretty heavy duty mats. I do try to keep my truck looking clean at the same time do put stuff in the bed. Hmmm, might have to take that Protecta off your hands, but at same time wondering what shipping something like that from the West coast to East coast would be..

As for the frame, I would think living in a Warm climate would slow down the formation of rust. I had a Tacoma living up North before and that thing had less surface rust..The dealer said they would re-coat it..guessing that means get the spray paint can out. If they don't would you suggest naval jelly then bedliner spray?

simmduramax,

I'm extremely sorry to hear about your vehicle issues and I understand how that can be frustrating. I would be happy to look into this situation for you. Please private message me your name, address, phone #, VIN, and the name of the dealership that is working on this vehicle.

Thank you,

Jessica L.

You would think that would have been a class action lawsuit.

I live in So. Fla.. Down in Sunrise by Fort Lauderdale. My seat has leaked grease for 2 year. It has been out of warranty and my Weatherguard floor mats catches it. My son had a cracked dash in the same spot on his 2008 2wd. Out of warranty but complained to a GM Customer Service Rep. and got everything but I think $400 covered. He ended up moving to Utah right after that and bought a 06 4wd instead. Seems to be like a pretty common problem. Hope they don't try and sweep it under the rug like Toyota did to me with our Solara.

That sucks about your seats leaking and being out of warranty. Did you ever take it in to get it fixed? I'm curious as to what the remedy is going to be anyways...guessing wipe the grease and say it's all fixed. Seems a lot of people are having problems with leaking seats. How's the surface rust on your truck-frame suspension? I would think that living in sunny South Florida(salt free climate) that it would hold off a lot better from developing any surface rust. Guess it all depends on how good the coating is. I have looked under many different older vehicles down here and the undercarriage looked immaculate still.

I have a 2008 LMM same dash though. And I have the EXZACT same crack on my dash on by the air bag and now and new crack starting on driver side. Im really pissed about it as well. I actully googled this problem and tons of people with any GM product with the new dash have this problem and the dealership tells everyone that they never heard of this happening and you have a uniqe problem. B.S.!!!! So now what???? We have to wait a few years down the road until theres finally a recall or spend 1200 on a new dash?

Yea, I have looked up a ton since I got the crack on the dash and have also seen a lot of GM vehicles with this problem.

Mine just cracked in the exact same place last week. Noticed it while driving to work. Obviously an issue with these models.Sent from AutoGuide.com Free App
Apparently a lot of people have had these problems with older model trucks, suv's, and obviously newer model trucks. My cracked dash was replaced with the same exact dash so if I get another 9k out of it, I guess I should be happy..??!!?!! I asked my dealer what happens after the 36k warranty. They said I would have to pay for repairs..that's not acceptable to me..Knock on wood, this dash will last the life of the truck haha.

i have those same cracks on my truck creepy
Scary...

Dashmat. Protects, eliminates reflective glare, and hides the dash.
It won't help. My truck has had a dash protector/sun reflector always since the day I bought it. 9k later and the dash cracked on the passenger side as seen in the pics. I'm pretty sure it's called a luck game. Either you got a good dash which seems to be a slim number or you got a crappy one like the rest of us. The dashes are made in China along with a number of things and they seem to have gone cheap on the plastic. The 2014's have a vinyl dash..wonder how long those will last till the vinyl splits.

Ohh, and the remedy the dealer did for the leaking grease from the seats was to wipe the tracks clean. They said the stock tracks are loaded with an abnormal large amount of grease and I shouldn't have any other issues with them..I've wiped the tracks before so we will see what happens.

Right on the back of the seat rails on the carpet behind the plastic covers that cover the bottom mounts. I don't have a pic, but it is pretty obvious as the top rails hang over the bottom and cause it to drip down on the carpet. If you don't spots behind the plastic pieces covering the rear bolts then you shouldn't have a grease issue. I noticed it vaccuming the carpet and when I would use scotchgaurd I saw the puddle. I have cleaned it a few times as well.

Now I have to look at my dash.......Never had the seat issue though, that I can recall.

I had the seat issue with my 2012 Silverado 1/2 ton, figured it was because of the extreme heat here in Phoenix. Had a dash mat on it since it was new. Traded it in for the 2011 and I have not seen grease yet (only been 4 days) and I will get a dash mat asap to prevent and/or hide the dash from cracking.

Looking for bed liners - check out Dualliner. It has a heavy duty mat and plastic sides and tailgate protector - the best of both worlds and not too expensive. I used mine since the truck was new hauling around my Polaris and it's great because whatever you throw in the bed does not slide around.

This new truck has some sort of spray in bed protector - looks like a DIY job, but it's shiny and I don't know if Herculiner is shiny. Very thin coating, we will see if it lasts.

Amen Brother, I paid 47k for the Tahoe brand new and sure as hell expect better than that. All the steering clunking in these damn things too. You think GM would have that fixed but hey that would just be good customer service.
