LZO came to the pickups for the 2023 model year

The original 3.0 was the LM2.
It was used in both pickups, and full size SUV.

Pickups changed to the newer 3.0 -- the LZO, for 2023 model.

For the SUV, the change from LM2 to LZO was delayed -- along with the SUV 'refresh', until the 2025 model year.

The LZO has been officially announced/released for 2025 SUV.
It is labelled as 'late availability' ... without explanation.
It shows as available on all trims of Yukon/Yukon XL, and all on 'Burb/Tahoe except the LS and commercial (1FL and 1LS).

LZO has a bunch of upgrades from LM2

Honestly I think GM will introduce it in more of the lineup. A “derated” version to go in the new supersized Acadia and trinkle its way down. Or they’ll revamp the LWN for that and bring it back.
It’s all about the mpg these days

I don't think the LZ0 is going anywhere and will remain a long standing option in the 1500 trucks.

Speaking from experience the Lm2 is going away but was still available in the Tahoe only because it has been replaced by the new 3.0 LZ0. We ordered a Tahoe 2023 with the 3.0 LM2 i wish i would have waited for a 2025 to get the LZ0. A friend of mine purchased a 1500 AT4 and he has the LZ0. We also have a 2018 Colorado with the 2.8 Duramax which has been awesome but this engine has been discontinued.

The new diesel is very popular in the small trucks. I personally have 2 friends that bought one of the 2024's in the XR2 trim over the gassers. The love them especially the 26 to 30 mpg they get on the highway. I followed one home on a short 40-mile highway run and my 2024 6.6 HD oil burner got 20.9 he got 26.9. Pretty impressive and my dealer here sells them faster than the gasser's as they are getting more popular. If I needed a half ton IO would get one hands down.

I would like GM to think outside the box a little bit and put the LZ0 in the HDs. An LZ0 would be a great option for a 3500HD when someone doesn't need the L5P but would like the payload in an HD. The towing capacity would be lower but the fuel economy in the HDs would be great with the LZ0. I would be the first in line to purchase... Wishful thinking 🤔

Hate to tell you, but you would be second in line,m; I already told my deaker if GM put the LZ0 in a 3500 SRW to order it and then call me. After seeing TFL pull 24ft enclosed trailers and LZ0 used 17% less diesel than L5P I would put the LZ0 in the daily driver and L5P in dedicated tow/haul rig. We love our LM2, but $800/yr to license I would rather have it in a 3500 that is $120/yr to license.

Based on GM pricing, the LZ0 woukd be $120 more that L8T (6.6L gas) and thus a no brainer with way better mpg. LZ0 would be great in a lot of applications. It might have to downshift a gear or two with a 35ft 5th wheel, but for the 2-400miles most 5th wheel campers get pulled in a year it would be just fine.

Until then I will continue over loading my 1500 when my 3500 is tied up on other duties because the 25 mpg tank average empty for 30,000 mi/yr is way better than the 17 out of the L5P.

I have a 22 2500 AT4, coming from an 03 PSD with shorter wheelbase. The F250 with suicide doors has a slightly shorter cab and bed. I do like my 2500 full 4 door but have often thought a shorter box would help with backing. It would be nice if GM offered the 2500 with the 1500 box, better backing and shorter turning radius. I don't think I would miss the extra length and backing a 30' camper into tight spaces would be easier. Perhaps pair the 3.0L with the shorter box?

Does your AT4 have the 8ft box or the 6.8ft?
6.8

The shorter box, did not measure it but it is not 8ft. The extra room is nice for loading dirtbikes but just more difficult to fit into smaller spaces. Too bad GM could not engineer for more turn in the front axle or bring back the 4 wheel steering in some form. Muy cousin had one of those, really nice setup but I believe the price was just too high at the time for GM to keep them in the lineup.

Putting the 3.0l Diesel in the HD trucks - or would will they offer a hybrid driveline in the HD trucks?
Well - the answer to both questions is yes. I got an article from GM Defense recently about their new model for the military - which used the 3.0l diesel with a battery powered driveline - and over 600hp. Similar to the RAM hybrid trucks which use the engine to drive a generator to charge the batteries to drive the wheels, the GM Defense design also uses the diesel engine to charge the batteries so the truck had 4 electric drive motors. How cool is that! Get behind me when they announce this for general sales and you can get #2!
