So I deleted my egr off my truck a couple weeks ago and have been talking to a fella who also can delete the egr out of the computer(Ecm) and boost my hp and tore for 650 he says and put a dome on my boost. My question is it worth it to have him delete the egr from my ecm like will it change anything since I have already taken it off or should I just spend the $1,200 and buy a tuner and do it myself?

If your truck is stock turbo, stock trans, and stock fuel (cp3/injectors) it isn’t going to make 650hp.

I wouldn’t recommend just jumping into tuning. There is a steep learning curve that takes a lot of trial and error. I personally don’t write calibrations as I feel there is too much risk involved for the small reward at the end.

I really have not a clue what has been dun to the truck I don’t think the injectors are stock don’t know though the turbo is I know some people have drove it and say there is something not stock on it but they can’t put there fingers on it aka internally. It has 5 inch exhaust when I bought it and a stock air filter brand new filter at that when I picked it up and I drove it 150 miles and stopped on my way back from getting it and it was pulling the wire mesh on the back side of the air filter off of the filter so I took it out. So that makes me think as well that something has been built/ replaced with performance parts.

Side question... Is EGR deleting something that you guys did yourself? And what's a typical cost (whether self or shop)? Sounds like the blocker plate isn't the best idea and full delete is recommended if it's done at all.

Trucks throwing CEL's are hit/miss. My 05 didn't throw a code when I blocked the EGR. That being said, my EGR was blocked (not deleted, stock up-pipe) for 150k with no issues. It is possible for the bellow to blow out and get weak but its not something I would count on for the average driver.

I would not try tuning yourself unless you have a lot of time and a basic understanding about ECM logic. If you do, comb over old diesel place threads and the EFI Live forum. Don't expect alot of help. Many of those who tune tend to keep that knowledge close to the chest. As stated above, there's no practical way your truck your truck is at 650 with stock turbo, injectors, etc. If you have a stock trans, don't go above 100hp over stock otherwise you will hurt the clutch packs.

I would have to say the bellows blowing is a mater of time not if but when, especially if the EGR cooler is completely removed and no support for that up pipe. when i got my truck it came with the EGR cooler removed and blocker plate installed. the up-pipe blew on the highway pulling a trailer and it caused a world of trouble, it melted the electrical connectors on #7 injector and the fuel manifold pressure sensor. $100 pipe cost me $800 in repairs. Cut and weld the up pipe or replace it with a straight pipe to be safe. removing the up pipe sucks but with some penetrating oil, heat , and patience its not two bad. BTW Anyone need a up-pipe with the bellows all ready removed lol.
