thats the oem gasket, the plate will have a tab on it. some people get rid of the tab though but i believe the people that do that cut down a lot of it to try and make it easier to get it in. the oem gasket has round holes for the bolts so it slips on before its all put together, the plate slides in from the side hence the cut out grooves to slide around the bolts. watch out though because the gasket has a cut out on it so you will think its the slots but get a mirror down in there and you will see its not. good luck

ok. Thanks. This seems likes its gonna be a huge PITA to just get those bolts loose. I thought the plate would go in from the top? Now im confused on which was the plate would go in.

yes. it is a huge PITA. :(

the PCV is more important than the EGR IMO, which I see you have already done.

ya just did that a few weeks ago

if you have the EGR off on your EFI tunes, I wouldn't really stress the plate.

with the PCV vented, no more sticky fumes are getting into your intake, and the soot can't stick to it, and gum up your bidnessssss... :)

ok sounds good. ya when i talked to rob he said he was turned off.

I went out to install the blocker plate two nights ago. Got the two nuts loose without too much trouble (tight fit though). I can't get the blocker plate into position. The exhaust pipe on the the firewall side is pinching against the bottom of the EGR cooler at the flange. I can pry things open and get the top in (down to about the last 1/4") but that is it! I am thinking of cutting the ears off of the plate (as suggested here) but am concerned that the flange will be prone to cracking when the nuts are tightened to an uneven surface. How tight do the nuts need to be? Should I be concerned about cracks?

thanks

i just got in from the bottom and pryed it apart like my life depended on it and had someone else pop it in from the top and it went right in. just didnt feel right cutting tabs off as i felt it wouldn't sit right. if it doesnt sit right it might whistle. didnt want to risk it and cut tabs because no putting them back on. just noticed you have a classic though so not sure how that works

Well, I gave up and didn't install the blocker. Put some anti-sieze on the studs and put it back together. Just going to put my EFI-Live on there and let it shut the EGR down.

Remove sensor with 14mm wrench

egr where you need to put the plate. Screws are behind that piece

guys I dont have this sensor on my truck? The spot where this sensor would be installed was never drilled and tap? any ideas?

If you can hire the Burger King actor Jeremy Kent Jackson to do this job for you; I highly recommend it. I left alot of blood under there.

No need to modify my plate and it installed in under 45 minutes. The tab on the plate points up on mine with no leaks or whistle.

The key to getting the plate in is to remove the inner fender on the passenger side and use a 3-4' pry bar on the up pipe "Y" going to the EGR and use the firewall to hold the pry bar while installing the plate. Went in with just a little wiggle.

Good Luck to You! :D
That is exactly how i finally got it in.

im having some really bad issues getting this damn plate installed. Got the bolts off, alot of penetrating oil and elbow grease and they came loose in about 30 min. Now betting that plate in is one big PITA!! I cannot get the pipe to move from the lower bolt. I have the plate almost to the lower stud, but it is too tight to go any further. Ive tried prying, pulling, swearing and no luck. I trimmed the ears, but im about 1/2 inch from the bolt on the bottom one. Any one have some suggestions?? I have tried using a pry bar from the bottom and trying to pry the pipe that way, damn thing will not budge, and yes the lower nut is off and the top one is just on the end of the bolt.

Any other Suggestions, i have been at it for 4 hours and no luck. Im gonna have a few beers and try again.

sounds all too familiar - keep the faith and patience.
Man I hear ya, just got it. All cut up, and tired as Hell. Kept prying on the pipe and the wife was able to position it in. It was funny, heard her yell, Damn thing is in, quit prying so it stays! LOL. Got it tightened up well, felt no leaks and drove it around the block and no whistle, but a littke bit better throttle response.

Glad wife helped out, made it a bit easier, but now I gotta hear about the scrapes she got.

Cool!!!! The best thing my wife can do for me when I'm stuck is to stay in the house and tell our daughter not to listen to daddy saying bad words, lol.

Glad to hear you got it!

I`m assuming it would be much easier to do the egr block off plate at the same time when replacing the stock down pipe with the diamond eye down pipe.
