How To: EGR block off in LMM !!

Ok...after much swearing and general deliberation I think I've come up with an easy system to install an EGR block off plate in a 07.5-09 LMM. You will need :

Moving blanket or other thick blanket
2 Stubby flat blade screw drivers..I like the craftsman ones
1 12mm ratcheting wrench
1 14mm stubby open end wrench
Tin snips/hack saw/band saw

First thing to start with is removing the intake elbow from the filter box and the turbo inlet tube and set it aside. Then remove the silencer (large plastic box with the 6.6 on it) it's clamped on the underside to the turbo inlet tube and fastened in the front by a torx fastener. Now, lay the blanket over the air box and the engine bay on the passenger side up to the turbo inlet....this makes working back there ten times better. The EGR pieces you're looking for are located almost at the firewall on the passenger side of the compartment. Remove the small sensor that is screwed into the engine side of the EGR piece and move it out of the way...this will take a 14mm open end wrench. You now have as much access as you're going to get and this is where the 12mm ratcheting wrench will be your best friend. Loosen the 2 12mm nuts holding the EGR mating surfaces together...they face the firewall and are offset from one and other passenger side lower than the driver side. THEY ARE VERY TIGHT !!! You may need to link another box end wrench on your ratcheting wrench to get enough leverage to get them off...be persistent. Now the fun part...with both nuts fully removed wedge one stubby screwdriver at the top of the mating surface and pry like your life depends on it...mine was exceptionally tight. (Make sure the gasket is on the firewall side mating surface) Once you have the parts separated take the other screwdriver and wedge it in on the outside of the driver side bolt sideways. Keep working the two screwdrivers until you can get the sideways screwdriver pushed in almost almost all the way down the blade...trust me it will stay in place. Take the EGR block off plate you purchase from your retailer...I used the one from Meyer performance...and snip the ears off the far side of each plate. It should wind up looking like it's got a hook on either side where the stud will locate it...I trimmed mine like this so you can leave the screwdriver in place while you drop the plate it. Wiggle the plate into position...at this point my plate just about fell into place. Reassemble everything in reverse...don't forget that little sensor you just removed...and you should be EGR deleted. My first attempt at installing the plate took me forever...I just did a buddies truck and it took me 20 minutes start to finish...GOOD LUCK !!!!

Ok did it and it is really a pain in the neck but it's worth the pain and the blood. Instructions were very good and it's a doable mod but be really "persistent" it took me 1 hour to only get the egr bolt loose. Good luck guys and I posted all images.

Cut off plate "ears"

Remove elbow and resonator cover.

Remove sensor with 14mm wrench

egr where you need to put the plate. Screws are behind that piece

take wrenche and ratchet. 12 mm

you will need to get some leverage. I used another whrech becaust it is really hard to do.

Remove the screws and wedge the 2 small screw drivers between the pieces

Put everything back the way it was and use the instructions on the first page of this thread by six-gun-todd he is awesome. I did purchase my plate from myers performance and I had great service.

I think it's a great mod. I hope from this point that its over and I wont change anything else. it's addictive.........ok maybe just a transgo jr but that's really it I promise.

Suprisingly enough it seals quite well without a gasket on the boost side. I've only heard or a couple situations where there was a hellashus boost leak generated by creasing the block off plate during install. Otherwise.....no whistle no problem. :D

I never found the manifold bolts to be very tight even on high mileage trucks......besides they are a ton easier to get to.[/QUOTE]

they are easier to get too yes but i had a 1/4 socket and ratchet and a 12" extension on the ratchet for lverage and they were bending pretty bad. if i can break that loose, do i need to repalce the gasket?

1/4 inch ratchet ?? :rof

You'll definitely need more than that......I use 1/2 inch drives wherever possible just to make my life easy. The gasket is a bimetal variety that can be reused numerous times.

Dont give up man it's been over a week that I installed the plate and I still have cuts and bruises.

I understand and it's great but im not used to work with gloves and here down south with the heat and humidity it makes it even harder to do it.

It sounds funny but even though the plate looks like it will fit either way installing it the wrong way leads to lots of swearing and a rather ear splitting whistle under boost.

If memory serves the tab is towards the passenger side.

Yes passenger side. I can not imagine trying to install it with the tab on driver side there is no room.

Um Tow.....unless you're really an overachiever I don't think blocking the EGR is going to hurt let alone destroy said $56k truck. If you lived any closer I'd probably do a pity install for ya. :neener

your right, you guys and your futuristic motors and things. mine didnt come with one so i had to add two just to keep up.

i got a battery ( i think??) it makes it start without the handle, pretty sweet technology there!!! woo.
