I keep getting PM's on how to do the PVC REROUTE so here it goes.
PARTS NEEDED
1/2 to 3/4 copper elbow
1" Barstool Cap
5/8 Heater hose
2 hose clamps
Optional 2 inch test plug

Go to Home Depo or a place like that. Go to the plumbing section and get a 1/2 to 3/8 copper 90 degree elbow, and if you want to block your resonator box at the same time get a 2 inch test plug. Then find a bar stool cap in the store.

Then go to your local parts store and get some 5/8 heater hose and 2 hose clamps. Length of hose will depend on where you want the hose to end. I used around 9feet.

Then pop the hood on your truck remove the resonator box

Then take the PVC hose going into the intake off.
Put the Barstool cap on the intake side.

Then take the 1/2 to 3/8 copper elbow and put the 1/2 side into the stock PVC hose. Then take the 5/8 hose and run it down the frame.

I ran mine back to the fuel cooler and put a filter on the end of it. The filter is not needed. Only pressure comes out of the PVC it does not suck so nothing will go into the engine if you do not run filter.

Since you are here if you want you can cap the Resonator if you want. It made my turbo louder.

This is a 2 inch test plug

Test plug in the hole I put a lock nut on for safe keeping

the lb7 duramax for your year of truck does not have a pcv system it only has a crankcase breather system instead of crankcase fumes bieng sucked into the turbo it simplly has a baffle in each valve cover that is connected to an open breather hose that runs down the side of your block.

Psyco, Great write up! Of all the ways I've seen this done yours seems to make the most sense and the easiest to do. I'll definitely invest $20 in your system rather than $100. for the "Burkhard Kit". That must be for show trucks or people with money to throw away. Yours makes it simple to return to stock if you ever had to also. Thanks again for taking the time to post this!

Whats the benefit for the reroute? I have done the resonator plug but pondering on the reroute.

Here we go again with this PCV crap. Just block your EGR and throw the PCV mod in the trash, it is 100% useless at that point.

It's utterly useless, it has NO performance or longevity benefit....while making crankcase scavenging worse and potentially causing leaks to show up sooner. The loss in scavenging can also cause a slight power loss at higher rpms.

Benefit: You can now enjoy smelling crankcase oil fumes and enjoy the ability for the engine to leave oil drips in your driveway, yaay !

AWSOME post thanks for the info!!

I did a re-route on a 6.5T chevy that looked similar years back and it made the engine drink oil like crazy til I changed it back. How bout the d-max does it change oil comsumption?I know most diesel's have a tube out of the valve cover then vented under the engine.

good write up gona do this this weekend. i used a rubber cap that goes on the outside to remove resonator and titens with a hose clamp so i dont have a steel bold haning over my turbo inlet. wear do u get a filter for the pvc like that, would a catch can like on a turbo car be better? thanks for the info.

All years need it.

Ufreak,
Where did you find a cap for the resonator? Is it heat proof? I would rather have a cap also. Let me know where to look for one or what they are called. Thanks...

Thanks jpat. I have the test plug now but I think I would feel alittle better with the jim cap. When people say "if something could go wrong it probably will" they are talking about "me".

Put a lock nut on the test plug and you are good to go. I hate the way it looks when you pop the hood and it is missing the resinotor box. Looks like sh it in my opionon. I like the stock look. If there is a lock nut on the plug it can not back off.

I got a red "oatey" brand cap from Lowes($3.00) and I was able to put the box back over it. I mean correct me if Im wrong, but if its plugged it shouldn't matter what comes after the plug right?

i got a cap from the local pluming store, its not heat resistant and may not last as long as a test plug. but it just looks better and makes me feel safer. a lock nut on a test plug is just as safe just dont look as clean.

what kind of gain would i get out this mod on my 2004.5 silverado duramax lly 4x4?? and if i plan on getting a new turbo, will this mod still be beneficial?

#26 ·
There is no performance gain. But it keeps oil from getting sucked into the turbo and filling the intercooler. It is just a safety mod.

#25 ·
No perf gain at all,the resonator is there to quiet the turbo whine, shame on GM:rof:rolleyes:

Hey psyco, After running that for a few weeks is your filter on the bottom of you hose all black and covered in oil/soot?

Hey I like your install! What kind of black hose did you use?

1' - 5/8" Heater Hose (Shucks Auto)
1' - 3/8" Fuel Hose (Shucks Auto) or more depending on filter location Keep it high that T-Connector to keep it from getting oil soaked.
1" Bar Stool Leg End Cap (Ace Hardware)
5/8" to 5/8" T-Connection with 3/8" out to the Breather (Shucks Auto)
3/8" Breather Filter for Import (Shucks Auto)

Hose Clamps for 5/8" (On Breather line coming from heads) and 3/8" if you like the T-Connector is a very tight fix and since it only allows air into the crank case there is no pressure.

psyco66, why did u rought the pipes all the way back to the fuel tank?? thats alot of hoes. im sure there are places ~
Best typo I've seen in a while, sorry its off topic, but I'm doing my pcv reroute later

Anyone done this on an LB7? I have seen two diff opinions on whether it needs it, but when I look at mine, I do not see the same set up, the intake "Tube" leading to the turbo is in the way, Does anyone have a picture of where it should be on mine? If at all? I do not see it... But I also do not have the Resonater, it came off when I put the K&N intake on, it replaced the entire tube, and the resonater came off with the factory tube...
Take a Look at what I am seeing instead...

Did my plug and reroute last night. I actually mounted the filter for the PVC reroute inside the resonator box then remounted it so you cannot tell anything has been removed or plugged until you remove the resonator box.

Finished with reroute and plug
