Thank You Hook'em_Horns for the PM. Good explanation of how the system works. I will be going ahead with the brake fluid flush as well as the HB flush. Now, about that fuel filter......

Does this mean I was way off? lol

Thank you for your excellent write up. A quick question, does the return line that you disconnect from the HB to connect your drain line to need to be blocked with anything to stop air from entering the system or does that not matter for this procedure? Thanks again.

No, just a rag on the end to catch any drip. The curve in it is just right to pull forward and hang it over the Master Cylinder where it's out of the way.

When complete and you return the line, make sure the lower part of it IS NOT laying on the metal hot side tube. Secure it up if it is, otherwise it'll rub a whole thru the pipe.

Just did mine today at 87K. Fluid like the others was black. Took the whole gallon of Valvoline PS fluid to get it 98% clear. Feels the same but now I know its all fresh at least. I did have the PS pump replaced by GM at 70K under warrenty because it was leaking.

Just did mine, used a whole gallon of o'reillys fluid. At the end of the bottle I still wasn't seeing clear fluid. Still a bit dirty, anybody else go through this?

But my brake pedal is ALOT smoother, and brakes grab earlier now. I haven't tested the steering yet.. I'm going to drain it all again within the next few weeks or so. What fluid are you guys using?

I did mine with 3 qts of Amsoil. No difference was detected in brake pedal, still very soft. I also flushed brake lines and cleaned/lubricated the caliper slides and bolts. I give up, it's a GM product.
BTW, the 5' of hose furnished in the Madjack kit is 3' too short, a waste of $ in my opinion.

I have dealt with Mad Jack several times you need to let him know he wants to put out good products.

Common Jason get with the program!!!:D

Im pretty sure I used 5-6' of hose when I did mine. Not sure why you need 8', unless your collecting it in your bed...

I had originally stated 5-6' of hose, because that's the length I had layin' around. It actually could stand to be shorter as it dips below the drain pan and then back up. That's on a standard height DRW. A lift and bigger tires could necessitate a longer hose length, I guess.

5' got the hose straight down to the pan under the engine so I couldn't see the fluid or pan. 3' extra would have taken the hose over the fender to the pan where it would be visible. Not a big deal, just annoying having to get out and down on hands and knees to monitor the fluid color coming out. BTW, I have bought a fair amount of stuff from Madjack and have no problems with anything they have provided including advice. Fast delivery and accurate advice is what I have received and I won't hesitate ordering from them again. It just seemed that for another dollar the longer hose could have made the task a lot more convenient.

Use an empty milk jug and put it on a crate or something. Problem solved. Its not like it needed to be under the truck, but whatever, I dont have to deal with it.

I'd just stick with PS fluid. I'm using the purple stuff and it holds up well. But, there's nothing wrong with using generic PS fluid.
