I'm sorry I meant to say that I let the level go down a little too low while flushing...I did not realize how fast the fluid pumped out. Is it making any noise now or is it just weak? Any leaks on any of the hoses through the system?

Dealer just replaced 2 lines off the hydro boost (also a new hydro boost last summer- thank you extended warranty) and I flushed it today finally. After 76,000 miles the sludge that came out was pretty disgusting, now it clear and real easy to steer. Great write up!

I need to do this!!!

I love this flush, makes me an easy .5 of an hour at work when I sell it, also impressed the lead tech with this as well lol, we will be doing his dodge next week :)

Obviously hb is hydroboost but I'm more curious as to how and what this hb system does for the steering? And how is the steering tied to the brakes? Thanks
A hydroboost system uses p/s fluid from the p/s pump to "boost" the pressure output for the brakes, its basically the same effect as a vacuum system used with a gas engine system, but since a diesel does not have vacuum it uses the p/s system for its assist

If you have another question be free to ask bud

Did this, and before, I had problems turning the wheel with the brakes applied. A few weeks after the flush and some miles, I am happy to report that I am now able to apply the brakes and turn my wheels!

Immediately after the flush, it felt the same, but after putting some miles on it and getting it properly bled, it feels much better.

Definitely something I would recommend doing bi-yearly, as its cheap and super easy!

old thread but i tried this and now it makes a noise when i turn to the left. anyone know how i can fix this? it didnt make any noise before
My truck actually started to do the same thing. Did you discover the issue? I am about to run another gallon through the system as well to see if it will remedy the squeal turning to the left.

Is it possible that the reservoir ran low and sucked a little air in? I know that I ran mine pretty low without realizing just how quick the fluid level drops when pressing the brake and turning the steering. I wound up making one turn then going out and topping off to avoid sucking more air back in.

I am going to flush the system tomorrow night and see what happens. However, I can say that it took a couple of weeks before the noise started.

Not that this is your or others issue, but I'll inject for consideration.

I've had some unusual under-hood noise(s) for a while now that I've been trying to narrow down. But along with this strange noise, I coincidentally also was having some intermittent PS pump noise. The PS noise I attributed to the pump was finally failing; I'd had some leaks come about that drained the reservoir several times, laying down the abuse to the unit.

The strange noises wound up being from the failing clutch pulley on the Alternator. New unit in place and the noises are gone. Not only the strange stuff, but many more too. It's eerily quiet now, like on a cloud again. Little sounds here and there accumulate and slowly grow and you get use to 'em as normal, I guess.

Anyway, the failing pulley was evidently a hindrance on the PS pump at idle and trying to turn the wheels. Now the pump has quieted down and back to normal too.

Just something to check, another belt driven component failing, affecting the pump's performance when the pump is in fact just fine.

What I find odd is that multiple people get a squeal making only left turns. I am going to check my belts and pulleys as well as flush the system again. I'll let you know how it turns out.

With left hand vehicles and the design of our steering components, it may take more effort to turn left than right, but when everything's working correctly, you never notice?

This just started happening to me as well. Went to lunch on Monday and noticed loud squealing when I would turn. I guess I have a leak because my fluid was REALLY low. Stopped by the parts store an filled it up, but the screeching is still happening. It's intermittent though, not all the time... This only happens when I turn left too.

Whelp! I found out today that it was the passenger side front wheel bearing that mad the noise. Jacked the truck up and sure enough had an easy half inch of play.

Hi guys I just did this the other day and am having a problem with what I think is the pump. I read threw the whole thread and some guys seem to be having a similar problem but didn't seem to find a fix or maybe they just replaced there pump. But anyway after I did the flush there was a noise and slight vibration when I turn it's usually left but sometimes it happens going right too. I let it go for a cupel days thinking maybe it's just air but it countinued so I flushed it again yesterday. I used a gallon of the vavaline fluid and it's still there and maybe even alittle worse.
So today I tried a cupel of the things I read on hear to see if I could get it to go away. I jacked the front end up and did lock to lock about 20 times to bleed air out of the system if there was any. Then I revved it up and moved the wheel and got no improvement with either of them.
I don't know what else to try to do except replace the pump. Also the brakes do feel quite a bit better and the steering feels better when it's not acting up. I did look to see if the fluid in the resivour looked frothy after turning the wheel and it didn't. Is there anything you guys would suggest I do before replacing the pump and do you think it it the pump and not the hydro boost unit I'm thinking pump because the brakes feel good but I'm really not sure. Thanks for any help

I wondered what the hoses by the master cylinder were. I would never have imagined they had anything to do with the power steering. I pride myself on being handy with a wrench but this truck is a complete new learning experience.

I'm going to try this very soon. Will 5/16 OD x 3/16 ID hose work to do the job?
