Hey guys, I was down at my local gmc dealership getting my fuel filter changed out and one of the service techs found a leak in my hydroboost unit they say its bad and it going to cost $1076 to fix with labor. I was wondering if anyone knows if that quote is accurate

Mine leaks too when the weather changes. I had my dealer print me a parts page for the hydrobooster and found my leak is where a gasket is that looks like a figure 8. They don't sell it individually...of course. Just for the parts I was quoted $500. Mine has leaked for over a year and a half and I ahven't had to add any brake fluid yet. I'm not worried about it...not for $1000 installed.

From the Dealer, yes.

....Mine has leaked for over a year and a half and I haven't had to add any brake fluid yet.
Brake Fluid? How about your power steering fluid level? That’s what’s leaking, not brake fluid.

Here’s the part number for the HB unit, and the price from GM Parts Direct: Your direct source for Genuine GM Parts.

GM PART # 15854059
CATEGORY: All
PACK QTY: 1
CORE CHARGE: $0.00
GM LIST: $543.74
OUR PRICE: $282.85

It takes less than an hour to swap one out, easy stuff. Flush the system via http://www.duramaxforum.com/forum/how-tos-diy-write-ups/9074-power-steering-hydro-boost-flush.html and then add this procedure to your regular maintenance schedule to prevent future failures.

Wow. I stand corrected. PS fluid a little low but ok. My brake resovior is above it and I figured the 2 to be connected. Thanks for the help.

Mines leaking a bit. I got about the same quote from the dealer. I'm not too worried about it. I just watch the power steering fluid level to make sure it doesn't get low.

With basic tools and some know how or a book it can be done in a few hours. I have done them in less than an hour in the past. The hardest part is getting the actuator rod unhooked with out loosing the stupid little clip.

My has been leaking for a while, not a big leak just enough to upset the wife small spots on the driveway, Lol!

Found this one @ Napa-

Good price!

Dealer wanted $700 just for the Part.

Also for a temporary fix, Lucas P/S stop leak works pretty good, I've used it in a emergency before to get home.

Mine has been leaking since I bought the truck and while no problems so to speak, it's leaking inside the cab a little and it stinks. Can't stand the smell of it. This is the first I have seen of a rebuild kit. I may go that direction. It's time to do something!

My truck has 19,000 miles and I found a leak inside the cab at the firewall where the brake pedal shaft goes through the firewall. It is not brake fluid. Smells and feels different. Thought it was no big deal since it was not brake fluid. Left over from assembly possibly? Or is there another fluid in the pedal shaft I need to be concerned about and have dealer repair. Don't want to go to dealer unless it is a problem. Could it be hydro boost? Fluid looks feels and smells like clean oil. Is it power steering fluid? Never heard of a hydro boost. Does my truck have one?

Warranty covered, take 'er in. It's an easy, quick job to replace.

A check of reviews on Amazon . . . someone said 2771004 fits 2002, someone else said fits 2007. If you possibly afford it, many recommend buying a new unit. For my 2004.5, I bought the one for 2011, ACDelco 178-0853 and it improved braking performance quite a bit (small reaming to eyelet in rod may be required). GM seems to have made a lot of hydroboost units with identical, or nearly identical, physical dimensions but with different guts (I assume). Prices vary a lot, too.
