there is an illumination light on the tranny temp gauge right? if so, mine's not working. has anyone changed this? i have on older GM models, but not on anything this new. i know how to take the cluster out, and apart, but is there a bulb for each gauge that is easily replaceable? what is the bulb number??

ok well here's some news... the light bulbs that illuminate the gauges are soldered into the entire circuit board. they are not a "pop in, pop out" replacement. maybe on earlier models, but my 05 LLY has them soldered in, and in an almost impossible way to replace. I took one off and went to Radio Shack and they have a close replacement, just a little smaller. 272-1029 - i soldered a new bulb on and it works fine. in case you have never removed your gauges, it also is a pretty complicated, time consuming process. The needles have to come off all the pins, and the face will come off, exposing the light bulbs. i actually had 2 of them burnt out, so i'm sure there are plenty more to come. YET ANOTHER excellent design from our friends at GM. has anyone else done this procedure? i took some pics, and can upload if need be.

Thats good that you found them at radio shack. My question is how do you know where to install all the gauges at. If they are installed incorrectly the fuel gauge wont be accurate. The needle position controls when it tells you, that you need more fuel.

i have a few burnt out illumination, even in the steering wheel, post the pics i would love to see how its done before i attempt it, and radio shack did have the bulbs in stock?

yes the bulbs are in stock, and my radio shack is pretty ghetto. ill try to get the pics up, but its pretty self-explanatory once you tear into it. steering wheel controls are solder on as well, but i think gm parts direct sells each one for 20 bucks or less if you want to replace all 4.

any chance that there is some way for me to fix my PRND321 illumination problem the same way that you fixed that gauge bulb? My gear selector lights and odometer lights have been out for months...
