so i want to get an intake. preferably S&B, but my brother is telling me that volant is getting better reviews and better gains then the S&B. anyone have either S&B or Volant? which one should i get???

Yes, LML. why should it stay stock? I was trying to pick between volant and S&B and then saw the price of the Volant and said F that.

has anyone installed the Volant? my brother tells me that they get to most horse power gains, but here on the forum all i see is S&B, or AFE.

I have a modified stock air intake on my LBZ and have no complaints.

i will never get an intake on a truck unless its going to be build.

last year my buddy and i took a snowmobile trip to saint donat canada where it was -30 degrees, the intake cone froze and wouldn't let any airflow to the turbo. the truck (lmm) wouldn't get out of limo mode. finally after 3 hours of agony, we got to the hotel i rip the cone off the truck bring it into the room and washed it let it dry for the a few days in the room so it would be all set for the tip home. after this i will never get one again. me typing this out makes it sound like a walk in the park, but it was hell.

The problem was getting one of those open style cone filters........the fully enclosed ones like S&B or Banks don't have that issue.

i'm still running my stock (modfied) intake with my different turbo. next time i'm able to go on the dyno i plan and running a test to see if there is any hp difference between a stock or cai. i don't think there will be much of a difference if any and the the stock intake is better at filtering dirt ( i live out on the country with alot of gravel roads)

I would love to see the results, I've contemplated trying to figure out an aftermarket CAI option that uses the stock style filter. You can get this filter design rated up to well over 1000hp.

Screw it, I'll just leave the stock box on my LML and seal it up to a snorkel...

But on another note, I don't even know what my filter looks like, the guage hasn't moved since I got it, only have 15,600 miles on it, so I haven't taken it apart. Might do it this weekend just so I know what's in there, lol. Hell, if there is one, lol.

same here dude. also on another note, i think i am gonna buy an H&S tuner while i can get the DPF delete and wait a year or so to put it on. LOL

I would go with the S&B, but most of the CAI kits will benefit the engine in the same way. With full deletes and tuning from H&S, the CAI helps quite a bit. In stock form, the CAI gained me just over 2 MPG over the Rocky Mountains (1200km each way) with the welding skid bolted into the box.

Hope that helps.

lots of people dont like the aftermarket intakes... i run the s&b, reguardless that there is no performance difference. i justify it by getting more turbo noise. and sounds better under throttle. you get way better throttle response. and i picked up a solid 2mpg while still in stock form

I just know that the newer filtration system that they put in starting with the lbz was far better than the lb7 or lly and they can be had for cheap because of those that take them off when installing an cai. I am more wondering how the intake piping would differ not allowing it to bolt up

The lml has pretty much the same intake as the lb7 only it's a flimsier filter. I just ordered an s&b as well. I'm already deleted, tuned and have a lift pump. New tunes, and a dragonfire cp4 soon to come:gearjamin

I've got the S&B on mine with the cold air scoop and I didn't notice any more noise over stock.

My father has a Volant on his LLY and I don't notice any more noise in the cab. The K&N CAI I had on my 05 gas truck was noticeably louder than stock. A little annoying sometimes.

For anyone who may be interested in getting a S&B cold air kit I have an extra in the box brand new. Shoot me a PM. It has the dry filter.

I just bought the Volant Powercore for 300 bucks. I figure it will pay for itself. I have been paying 55 dollars for the stock LML filter, so in the long run it should be cheaper, I hope.
