I think they may require you tighten to X, do a little dance, pray to the gods of suspension, then crank the nut an additional X degrees. But, perhaps not with the 3500. I don't know. It's crazy this info isn't readily available.
I have (had) the rear clunk when stopping (not always). There are a bunch of posts on that out there. Noticeably worse this cross-country trip. I guessed it might be the u-bolts. After breaking initial resistance, I could get a little movement with 70#. I worked the pattern in stages and went to 100. Clunk seems to be gone. Since I can't come up with the definitive answer, I'm going to go with 118. 2,600 miles to get home with our camper in tow, so hopefully this works.
