Not a chance they are the same. Additive package will be different, etc. Just like Walmarts super tech and Costcos Kirkland oils, both made by Warren, different packages.

Has anyone found the “Castrol Edge Turbo diesel” oil? I’ve searched for it but could only find “Castrol Edge” and it didn’t have the Dexos D certification. Curious if anyone has found it and how much it costs.

I have Jaguar that uses this. It is only available thru dealerships. 12.00+ a qt. Many cheaper alternatives….

No doubt - it’s hard to pass up the AC Delco at less than $6 a quart on rock auto. You can do an oil change for under $50 with filter. I don’t think I’ve seen a comparable dexos D oil for under $10/quart.

Thats what I'm saying. I'm only using EXP X2 now because I got a kickin deal on four 6 packs from Summit racing about a year ago. Have no Qualms about going back to AC oil when I run out.
and @JGRaider I don't read BITOG or have a MIT degree to dissect oil. There could be 5.00 worth of extra additives in Mobil 1.... OR...... They could have just put green dye in M1 to "Differentiate" themselves and the contents are identical and charge more. They both far surpass what is required, proven by analysis, and conform to specifications. Thats all I need to know.

Fair enough. I was in the wholesale fuel and lubricants business for 29 years. There are no 2 motor oils exactly alike, no matter if they meet the same spec or not. That's all I'm saying. From the UOA's I've seen regarding these specific motor oils for the 3.0 Duramax, (ACDelco, Mobil, Amsoil) they all seem to do a good job, at least at the 7500 mile or less interval.

Thanks. Its not listed under my truck anymore. It used to be. 2022 1500 LM2. Good news is I found the Mobil product for 6 dollars a quart. Mobil 1 ESP X2 Full Synthetic Motor Oil 0W-20, 5 qt - Walmart.com
Thanks for the heads up on the Mobil 1. Just ordered (3) containers. I did see that that the Ac Delco Dexos D wasn’t listed under my truck either on RockAuto since I was looking to order some. I did find that they are still selling it by going to a past order and following the link for the product from a previous purchase. However, the Walmart Mobil 1 is cheaper than the RA AC Delco by a hair plus Walmart has free shipping.

I just put 3 changes in my garage. Overkill but my guess is Walmart will get smart soon and raise the price.
Walmart has always sold Mobil (all flavors) at this price, been that way for ever. They have always been significantly cheaper than the auto parts stores on it so I don’t think there’s any risk that it will increase to match the other sellers.

The list of oils that have DexosD approvals continues to get longer. There are 11 currently.
More choices and better availability improves pricing.
It's come a long way since this thread started almost 4 years ago.

Current list:

dexos 1 gen 2

Please note: GM dexos D engine oils meet or exceed the performance of GM dexos 2 engine oils and are backward compatible, therefore vehicles equipped with diesel engines that previously used GM dexos 2 will use GM dexos D licensed engine oil of the of the appropriate viscosity grade at their next oil change.

Not sure how that would be possible since Dexos 2 was was either 5W-30 or 5W40. The 2.8 did not call for 0W-20 which is the only viscosity listed for Dexos D.

I still use liqui moly, not that anyone care haha. I just wanted to add my 2cts

I was wondering that too!

(but it's copy/paste from the 'Dexos approved pages')

Since I forgot to include the link - dexos® Licensed brands | General Motors (gmdexos.com)

Not ALL flavors, just the most commonly used ones for most vehicles. They never sold EXP X2 Dexos D in stores. Only a very limited line of vehicles uses it. Still a great bargain at the above price though.
