I've got a '13 LML and will be replacing the #6 glow plug this afternoon following the P0676 code. Do yall have any tips or tricks to make the process easier? or is it pretty straight forward?

This is my first time replacing a glow plug

Thanks

I’m about to do the same one, #6. I really suggest you do them all, at least all on that side so you don’t have to go back in another time....like someone I know.

PB Blaster or equal penetrant. Depending on where your truck has been in the country (northern salty rds) your threaded pin will possible break with the nut attatched. The new plugs do not come with new nuts, they should. Merchant Auto has a set of 8 for 5$ or so.

Thanks for the replies,

That was one of the easier maintenance jobs ive done, the longest part was taking the wheel well liner out.

I bought an Autolite plug from Advanced Autoparts and it came with a replacement nut.

As others have mentioned, having extra nuts on hand is very helpful. Especially when you’re replacing plugs on the drivers side.

Seems like I’m replacing a plug every quarter or so...

I've got a code for #3 glow plug.

Living in Australia, there really isn't much need for glow plugs anyway.

So, I'm wondering what would happen if I just removed them all and replaced with short bolts (or a "glow plug delete kit" if there is such a thing)? I already have my truck "deleted" and use a CTS2....so I've cleared the code for the time being.

Not sure if I can get the PPEI Autocal altered so it won't recognise if there are no glow plugs. Guess I should contact my tuner supplier to find out.

Hey Roachie,

I don’t know how that’d work... even though the truck is deleted I’d still think you would need plugs for starting purposes.

Not sure about a delete kit....

Guess I’m not much help... Good idea though.

There is a thread on here somewhere that the OP used a resistor inline on the glow plug lead(s) to make the Glow Plug Controller "See" the glow plug so it did not throw a code.

He put the resistor inline and then just grounded the lead.

If you live where I do you don't really need them for starting.

Mine are all working though.

Thanks Douglas.....good idea.

Think I'll just stick with a new plug for the time being.
