I installed some Recons on my 2005, but it was kind of a PIA in way. Mainly because I think I measured a dozen times before I drilled all those holes in my cab! Everything turned out ok, but if it was me I would be a little nervous letting someone else do it. I would think it would be fairly expensive labor wise. The lights are relatively cheap. Sad thing is it's only a $55 option from the factory. I think they should come standard on the HD's IMO. The GM lights look sharp. Don't care for the Ram or Fords personally.

 

I couldn't agree more. Why they aren't standard equipment is beyond me. I would gladly pay $55 and that seems like a bargain but I can't imagine what the dealer would charge to install and warranty them.

 

I just bought a 2015 and also like the cab lights. I had the dealer throw them in the transaction as a dealer installed option. They are putting them on next week and they tell me it's the OEM lights and it will be just as if the truck came from the factory that way.

 

Did they give you any indication of how much that cost? Must not be too much if they were willing to add without much hassle.

 

They said is was a "$400 value." That majority of that was the labor to install them. I don't recall exactly, but I think the lights themselves were only about $50 or so.

 

Cab lights are a must for me, wouldn't look at a truck without them. When I was looking I was quoted $700 to install. I just laughed. I ended up ordering the truck which I highly recommend if your not in a rush.

 

Are you still able to get the current deals even if you order it ... ? Right now, deals out there are about $10,000-$11,000 off MSRP.

 

Bout $300 in parts and bout $700 installed.

Here's some info. Part numbers. Easy installations. Just take you time and measure right.

 

If it was me, I would probably keep looking until you found one already done from the factory or I would do it myself. I'm very meticulous about my truck so I would be worried that the measurements would be off...even if it was just a fraction, it would bug me.

 

I bet your side to side measurments on your truck are off at least a 1"

Dealers can install cab lights. They'll charger you an arm & leg, but it can be done.

 

I wonder if you buy the OEM from dealership if its plug n play, or do you have to splice harness

 

Plug and play, some trucks may have the harness already, just go to your dealer and run the vin #

If you are going to buy a brand new truck you just as well order one with everything you want rather than pick one from the lot.

 

Dealer would not install mine and sent me to there body shop

So I decided to install them myself and was easy, measure twice and drill once, have a shot of your favorite beverage, scotch was mine lol before you drill

My cab lights came in Monday ... damn good Ebay deal.

The OEM lights are 22794641 (center), 22794642 (left) and 22794643 (right).

Notice the mounting holes ... they are square ...

The template I plan to use .... I will use this to scale and dimension in AutoCAD and plot a full-size template to align in each corner then check with cardboard cut-outs ...

The wiring harness should be in this Friday ... 2015 OEM harness is 23170769.

 

All I'm saying is run your vin and check before you buy the harness

The used 2011 GMC I bought someone had put lights on and when I went to replace them (non GM) I contacted an online parts direct seller and there was a different wiring harness.

If I was close to some of you that had the means I would definitely plan a weekend project to get it done. Left up to me, I would have at least 2 extra holes. I think I'll try to find one with them or order a new one.

 

My dealer said there isn't an option to add the same lights as factory and that they would have to install recon lights instead? Anyone know if this is really the case?

 

What? You don't mention your vehicle make/model/year.

When I was looking to replace whatever someone had put on the used GMC I bought I used the website below to find the GM wiring harness and lights. The only reason why I didn't go with GM is because I would have had to drill larger holes for the pig tail connections.

This was the only site that I could find that had the wiring harness listed.

The best I could tell for my 2011 GM's wiring harness connection plugged into the GM lights. Recon's came with the pig tail connector. Now if those would plug into the GM wiring harness that I do not know. In one of the links I previously posted I have pictures of the Recon harness and connector and a GM diagram. For my installation I took the Recon's and clipped the connector off and wired them to what ever someone else previously installed.

 

2015 GMC Duramax. I can't hardly believe you couldn't order the factory lights, but they say only can get recons if the truck didn't come with them installed factory.

 

Here is what it shows for a 2014. I cannot believe it changed from 2014 to 2015. Maybe it did but I don't know. This diagram looks exactly like what it showed for my 2011 GMC and the same exact harness part number 22823360.

Sorry I posted the wrong harness, mine was 22823374 with Onstar. Irregardless 22823360 and 22823374 are the same for 2011 and 2014.

I thought I saw one online GM seller that listed 2015 parts but which one it was I don't remember. I was looking for the 2015 Duramax decal as I recall.

 

I looked at about a dozen GM parts websites and found no hits on 2015.

First I would contact one of the online GM parts sellers and ask if the harness numbers I gave you works for a 2015. If not then maybe it changed for 2015.
I would also ask if the light assembly part numbers are the same for 2015.

 

Someone in this same thread posted the 2015 harness part number, 23170769.
I would contact them and see if the lights they got are GM and what are the part numbers. I checked 23170769 on one part website and it did come up.

Well, picked up my harness today and had to test it .... voila, let there be light. Now need to drop the headliner and start cutting ... total install will be OEM.

 

I talked to a different person at the dealership and he said they were using GM parts to do the lights. He didn't know why the other guy told me they were going to use the cheap recon crap.

 

I would hate to know what they are charging for the parts and labor ... !
