Tow Mirrors Problem/Question

I noticed the other day that my passenger side stock tow mirror isn't heating to defrost, and the signal in the mirror is not working. Is there a separate circuit for each side? Anyone have a quick fix or an idea what could be causing only one side to not work? The drivers side works fine.

I also have controls in my door for mirror controls but my mirrors do not respond to input from the door controls, I figured the truck originally had normal mirrors and the dealer installed non electric tow mirrors. Is this typical?

I am just wondering if its possible that the problem with the passenger side mirror is related to the mirror controls having no effect on the mirror placement

Thanks peoples

Nope, no response from either mirror, but the drivers side signal and defrost works

If the mirrors have heat and signals, they should move electrically. How do you adjust them? Your truck is an SLE so it would have had power mirrors in some form from the factory, so the wiring should be present. Check for fuses. (If there are fuses for the mirrors) If that is not the case, you will want to pull the mirrors to see if someone did a bad job wiring in replacements.

I have been just adjusting them by hand. I didn't know that they had defrost until 2 days ago when it dropped bellow 0°C. I will check fuses and wiring, If I have to pull the mirrors I will probably just replace them with some sleeker regular mirrors... I do like the tow mirrors for traffic though (no ghost trailer :))

Once you get 25 posts on the site, you can post your VIN in the VIN Check section and we can get your RPO codes to find out if your truck had standard or tow mirrors from the factory. Or you can just post your RPOs here.

I will strive for the 25. kinda curious to know what has all been done to the truck

So I ended up pulling the fuse out and it was in fact burnt. I replaced the fuse only to find that the mirrors do not correctly respond to the input from the switch. For example if the mirror adjust is set to drivers side and you press to the left on the button the passenger mirror moves up. If you set it to passenger side, both lateral adjustments cause the mirror to move up,down makes it move down, and up has no effect.

I guess I will be pulling the doors off to see were the messed up wiring is... :(

I will pull it apart and have a look, it may be all messed up in there or a short, considering the fuse was burnt... Bleh I will do fix the air conditioning blowing hot on the drivers side and ice cold on the passengers side at the same time

So was the wiring in the door the cause for your problem? I'm having trouble with mine. They don't respond to the switch and the blinker doesn't work. Though it did look like the fuse was fine. I'm going to try and get the door panel off tomorrow to see if all the wiring is in good shape

Hey, sorry it took me a while, I never actually took the door apart to find the problem. I have been pretty busy with work.

I would appreciate it if you let me know if you figure it out and what the cause was though!

Thanks

Mine actually just turned out to be unplugged from the back of the switch haha.

Id start with swapping switches.

How my issues were resolved

At first my passenger side mirror stopped moving up and down, so I replaced the switch and made things worse, the pass mirror stopped moving entirely. Then over the next bunch of months the driver mirror stopped moving up and down and heating, later the rear passenger window could not be raised from the driver door. I took the truck into a electrical shop and they found a number of wires in the harness running from the driver door to the body had deteriorated/broken and needed replacing.

Everything works again, the mirrors are not moving smoothly in the up/down direction though and the shop said it's most likely the mirrors motors, I priced them from GM and they are reasonable but I'm fine with them as is.
