Hey all, just signed up.I'm seeing a weekness in the tranfer cases.i have an 02 Duramax. The pump on the inside is torquing wearing a hole in the case. When this occurs fluid leaks out and burns the clutches for the 4x4.If your not using the 4x4 you may not notice this problem. The holes occur at the rear cone on the right side of your filler plug along the side.$3500.00 re & re ouch.I'm seeing the same results in other cases. If you keep your fluid up you may save the interior.

Is this rubbing problem something that GM has addressed in later models? I've seen several posts over the last months but have never figured out if I should worry about my 2007 Classic. Thanks.

It is an issue. That happened to one of mine and wound up being a little costly so since then I have had a spare on hand just in case. The case is made out of magnesium and can't be welded but as far as I know, That issue has not been addressed.

Unless you are really good and can take the rubber plug off the top of the rear housing to get to the snap ring inside that will let the rear housing come off

Why the hell is the t-case made out of magnesium on a 7000# truck?

Pump Rub check out thisMerchantAutomotive.comhas a simple fix for that, but usually it needs to be done before the leaks occur, but you still can add the kit,and just get the hole sealed up

Guys, nothing against merchaant but I myself just cant see spending that much money.

Call Rob, or John Kennedy, both of them sell the Adapt A Case pump rub kit. It serves the same exact purpose as merchants but its 5 times cheaper.

You want to remove the case, evrything is just kind of sitting in there and when you seperate it, it falls out like spillin the guts out of something.

Its not too terrible to remove anyways, just remove the shafts, the 3 wires and vent tube, then jack the trans up and remove the trans x member then remove the 6 bolts that hold the t case on.

o ya, and for the guys thinking magnesium is a bad choice wait till you have to remove yours, its nice to have it out of magnesium and weighing about 40lbs. If these T cases dropped straight out it wouldnt be a big deal, but since you have to twist it and slide it just the right way, its nice to have it be lightweight.
