Im having an issue with my turbo and i need as much help as anyone can give. Here is what has happened so far:
Vehicle: 2008 Lmm ltz 4x4
I was running an RDS 9 blade turbo which was stock modified. No issues with it just wanted to change the turbo due to the noise (it got annoying after a while). It was tuned with efi and i literally had no issues. I purchased an AFE bladerunner 65mm turbo (got it brand new for under $1000). After I installed it the vane solenoid was constantly going up and down. Performing a sweep but since its a bigger turbo it never reached 100%. I finally got it tuned and that issue went away but im dealing with a new issue.
The truck has no power on low end. I get on it and it will eventually start building boost but not enough by a mile. And there is a ton of smoke. I spoke to the tuner and he showed me that his tune is commanding the vanes to close but there is no boost. I have since changed the vane position solenoid for an oem part and the vane sensor with a new part also. Still having the same issue.
When im at idle i switch the tune from street to race and you can see that the desired vane position rise to 100%. and when i go back to street the desired position goes back down. But i hear no difference in the exhaust. I tried using my scanner to see live data and the vanes are in deed not doing what they are supposed to.
Whats weird is that while im driving like on the expressway and it eventually starts to build boost, it will run fine for a bit. but when i let off and start to pickup again it goes back to not producing boost. (or closing/opening the vanes correctly).
Heres what i tested:
-ignition to run, truck off, the connector reads 8 volts
-I removed the c clip from the right side and manually moved the vanes in and out. they moved freely from 0 to 100. (checked on scanner)
-sometimes when i have it connected to the scanner and i command it to open/close, after a few tries it will eventually close (you can hear the turbo). then when i command it off it wont go back up.
-if i put it in gear and accelerate (trying to build boost) it will literally not build a single pound. it only builds boost when im accelerating while driving and only after a little while.
-i tried several times to do a re learn and have had no luck,
-the tuner i used has looked over his tune and said everything is fine.
-there are no check engine lights or codes at all. the only alert i get when driving is a "engine reduced power"
